not dumb question, I have read of many people taking the inside apart only to find they have to take off the outside to do the job...these people are great because they save the rest of us alot of time.

Bull, do you have any other speakers like tweeters and sub? cuz I was hoping the sound would be good enough with just the new Polks, I listen to a little music mostly 80's new wave and punk so I don't need thunderous bass and I listen to tons of AM talk...

Just take the outside off. Its actually very easy. Getting the outside door panel is the hardest part.

For me, external and/or factory tweeters are not necessary.... which is why I removed mine. The amount of "highs" you get out of the Polks are mind-blowing alone. I am driving mine with a JL Audio A4300 amp along with a JL Audio 6-1/2" sub, but I wanted a lot of bass for the Merengue and Latin Hip Hop I frequently listen to. I found out after the fact that the Polks can deliver a lot of bass anyway, so you may find that you will be perfectly happy with that alone. Also depends on your desired listening level. If you want to really crank it, you may decide to add an amp later. Won't need it for talk radio though. ;)

Sorry cut and paste didnt function... yes Putting the door panel back on is the hard part. You have to slip it on a certain way so that everything gets lined up (screw holes) and the lips of the door panels are covering everything they are supposed to be covering.

True. This was my experience as well. Getting it off is a breeze. Getting them back on seems to require 3 hands. I'm still not sure I figured out 'the trick' to it. It isn't as easy as just doing the removal steps in reverse order.
