I am wanting to install and aux. input jack for my radio in the little cubby hole to the right of the steering wheel, simply because I also want to install a second 12 volt power outlet in there, too. This would allow me to plug in my Tuneflex unit so I can play my iPod and also use the power for supplying it. Others have done it and simply routed the input wire under the dash and connected it in the glove box, but since I want to be able to remove my Tuneflex and store it out of sight, I need to be able to unplug the input wire easily. I also don't like the looks of it dangling out in the open when I'm driving and into the closed glove box door.
My questions are as follows:
1.) Has anybody relocated the built in aux. inport jack, or is it even possible? If so, how does it remove? I've not been brave enough to take my dashboard apart yet, so I don't have a clue as to how it's fastened in.
2.) Is it possible to purchase a jack like the one that comes in the car and if so, where might I obtain one?
I realize I could just buy a short extension wire and plug into that, but I really would like it to be a clean, flush mount that securely connected so it's not bouncing around and possibly making extra rattling sounds.
I'm trying to figure out if it's better to relocate the current one, or try to add a second jack. Anybody have any input that can help me?
What do you mean relocating the built in aux. inport jack? Do you mean the built in 12v jack? I went to radio shack and for about $9 i bought a new 12v jack and placed it in the glovebox so I could charge my ipod without it being out. You just run the positive wire to the fuse box (switched ignition or full time port) and ground the negative wire.
I'm not talking about the 12 volt receptacle that some call a cigaretter lighter output. I'm talking about the little connector inside the left hand side of the glove box. That's the one I'd like to 'move' or add an additional connector over by the steering wheel.
Someone in another thread explained how to install/move the aux. mp3 input to the little cubicle at the left of the radio... It's either "iPod nano", or something to that extend. Check around, please. Thank you.
JPaul,
It was the other article that got me wanting to relocate the auxiliary input. I read that posting but it relocated the 12 volt POWER socket and routed the auxiliary input wire over to the existing jack in the glovebox. That would mean the device would have to stay out in plain sight all the time, since it would not allow movement due to that single auxiliary input wire being held in place.
That's why I posed the questions on whether anybody had relocated that little auxiliary jack, yet. If so, I could use both mods to accomplish what I would like to be able to do.
Thanks for moderating and trying to make sure people read the other postings before asking the same thing over and over. In this particular case, though, I'm trying to go one step further and hope somebody else has achieved it so we all can benefit from it.
Harleyduo,
As usual, our ever wise evilution had posted what I was looking for:
