Questions about Pioneer system hookup.

Hello all. I am assuming that several have installed one of the Pioneer systems, wether it is the 700 or 900 or 90BT like myself. I plan on doing my install on Sunday, but I have several questions to see how you all did it.

1. Do I really need to hook up the back up wire if I don't have a camera installed at this time?

2. Did you cut off the RCA connectors in order to splice to the smart adapter cable, which I am assuming you did.

3. Brake wire I plan on putting to ground and a toggle switch to turn on and off, so no issues here.

4. Speed wire I am holding off on to hook up to a CAN VSS module due to I might buy the cruise control later on down the road and was told it has a hookup spot for that wire.

Other then that, I have looked all over AVIC411 and gotten a lot of info, but yet, no one seems to take pics of their installs. So, I plan on doing just so, and then hopefully, it will become a sticky. Hehe.

Thanks.

1. I don't think so.

2. I'm not sure.

3. Yep!

4. My AVIC doesn't have the seed wire connected.. It adjusts GPS speed and Navi times based on GPS.

no

dont cut any rca's, no need to. Just wire the speaker wires to your adapter harness. If you have rca's on the smart harness, its wrong.

brake wire can be grounded all the time. Check avic411.com and you will need to move the unused mute wire to the open 4th pin and ground that as well.

4. Speed wire i am holding off on to hook up to a can vss module due to i might buy the cruise control later on down the road and was told it has a hookup spot for that wire.
dont waste your money on the can vss. Works great without speed sense wire connected.

hey good luck on your install. Please try to take time and record what you do (pics) and then share them we the forum. If you have purchased a wiring adapter, antenna adapter and double din kit then you should be ready to go!

Well, after I had some sleep and looked at the directions, I found that the directions are clear on what needs to be hooked up. I was thinking stupid when I asked about cutting RCA connectors. I am guessing those are only for if you hook up an amp. But, you have your left and right speakers. Pioneer says if you have a sub, like the one under the seat, to hook it up to the Right speaker wires. I guess I have to do a search for what was posted which one it is hooked up on the smart. The right or the left back? So thanks for all the input.

After searching Evil's site, found it is the right rear that is the sub. So, matches right up with the connections of the pioneer. Should be cut and dry. Going to post pics.

Also, about the brake thing and mute wire. I have seen that and also have hear on these forums that what someone did with the brake wire and toggle switch was just to make themselves legal if the cops pulled them over. Strictly my point in why I am going to put in a simple push button toggle. Yes, an extra few bucks, but well worth not having to pay a BIG tickets.

1)If you don't plan installing camera at this time and planned next time while you are there anyway's tearing your car why just rought it while drinking beer with it....
2) well, you got the whole sunday right... then cut it and solder it it's open anyway...
3)Not in the brake wire are you out of your mind.... the instruction of the of the unit negative wire should be grounded in which the brown wire of the car are directly in ground format anyways... my unit have bypass system look in bypass avic411..don't waste you $1200 unit. Warranty will not pay for stupid wiring.

Again bussiness man is always bussiness.

4) If you are perfectionist you might just put it on in LA we have tunnels too much traffic signals of nav not much strong in some area specially in near buildings pio. avic is almost ferfect in calculation BUT..... you need to install all sensor.

I am a consumer not a vendor so it's up to you to deside...

Brotherly advice put extra carefull on the stereo plug there is a live wire in there you might short the wire and blow your fuse or reverse polarity...

Note:
I am not badmouthing anybody here but, I got too much mistake that I learned about....

Live in Texas, no tunnels or buildings to worry about Totally flat land. I might put it on, but maybe after I get my Cruise Control hooked up.

As for the toggle, it has already been done, and it would act just like Brake on or off. So no warranty issues there.

1. Do I really need to hook up the back up wire if I don't have a camera installed at this time? - No, you don't have to do it now, but it will save some time later when you do decide to put in a back-up camera.

2. Did you cut off the RCA connectors in order to splice to the smart adapter cable, which I am assuming you did. - No! Don't cut the RCA connectors. Even if you don't use them, the next owner might. If you have the proper wiring kit (I got mine from a vendor on eBay), the only cutting you really need to do is for splicing from the wiring kit to your Pioneer unit (power, ground, speakers etc.).

3. Brake wire I plan on putting to ground and a toggle switch to turn on and off, so no issues here. - Good move! Subject to your local/state laws... A manual ground switch might save you money from a "routine" police stop.

4. Speed wire I am holding off on to hook up to a CAN VSS module due to I might buy the cruise control later on down the road and was told it has a hookup spot for that wire. - Don't waste your time or money on a speed wire. I didn't install one with mine and I still get the announcement that says "You are over the speed limit." It's kind of neat the first time you hear it, but annoying when the speed limits increase. :-)

Crutchfield kits?

Does anyone know if Crutchfield has wiring kits for Pioneer and Kenwood receivers developed yet?
