Wow! I pulled the factory head to find the wiring harness from hell. I see the small connector going to the aux jack, and the antenna connection. But there are two other connectors with a mess of wires. In my day, there was the DC power and ground. Then a couple speaker wires. This bad boy has way more than that.

Vendors that are reliable for harnesses, like Crutchfield, don't know about the Smart yet.

Can anyone tell us which wire is what?

FWIW, it's not proprietary to smart. It's an ISO-DIN connector. You can likely use a VW wiring adapter kit, but you need to follow the pinout listed in the Evilution link as both VW and smart switch a few pins around.
