Relocating the mp3 plug

Don't see any threads detailing a how-to for relocating the mp3 plug from inside the glovebox to under the dash or some other convenient location. Anyone tried this or have a link to someone who has? TIA

Have looked all over for a thread from cubefx with photos on how to add an aux jack to the cable coming from the radio - can't find it!

Haha, that's the one thread I DID find! But I'm only trying to get the jack out of the glove box and out into the open. I'll try the links above and thanks for the quick responses.

There isn't much to it since the cord is a simple jumper from the radio to the glovebox.

The one trick is to know that the plastic clips holding things together is a center barrel (with 8 small barbs) that gets pried out from the 8-tabbed surround.

The left (or top) is the clasp together, the right (or bottom) is the barrel pried out so the tabs no longer hold the connector in the round glovebox hole.

If you create a 3/4" hole (measured 0.737"-0.818" on the grommet) the connector should slide right in and a quick push snaps it all together. It appears the connector can be mounted into flat material up to 0.114" thick, again by measurements.

Understand, and as John_H shows it's pretty easy to move; BUT, it means a 3/4 in hole somewhere else. By swapping out the smart plug for a smaller "standard" aux plug at least you can keep from drilling that big hole in the front of the radio (or elsewhere.)

After seeing your thread and the threads linked to here, I got super excited. I found a flat aux cable and actually pushed it underneath the radio (between the cloth and the radio) and it sits there perfectly now and runs into the well between the wheel and the radio. If that makes sense. Tomorrow I"ll take a picture. Very productive hour for me and you inspired it!

The wire is flat enough that it went in easily and the glovebox closes without hurting it.

John_H is correct that the existing plug simply pushes out through the side of the glove box. Before you do, however, you might want to plug a cable into it, because once its out, there is no way to get to it without removing the radio! (This is the voice of experience, here)

Back to the "removing the radio" thread.
