Remove Speaker Grills

It is possible to remove the speaker grills without removing the door panels? I have pair of custom 6.5" grills that I would like to use instead of the stock grills.

Unfortunately the factory speaker cover has plastic tabs that are melted onto the door panel and you can only drill them out from behind. The speakers are also screwed in from behind, I looked at every alternative, but the door panels need to come off. It's good experience to remove the door panels. Here's a picture when I did mine.

Taking the panels off isn't that big of a deal. Just follow other peoples instructions and take your time. I had to open my passenger panel again. To my surprise it to my 2 minutes to get the panel back on. It just fit perfect the first try. So no big deal. To me the biggest pain is dealing with the mirror and finding a safe place to hold it while you are working on putting the panel back on.

You should disconnect the electrical connector at the mirror and just store the mirror in the car while you work on the door. In order to make it easier to disconnect the mirror next time, you may want to put some dielectric grease on the connector. This has the added benefit of preventing corrosion and water intrusion.

Yeah I am too stupid to figure out how you disconnect it.

Removing the mirror connector was actually easy. I opened up the jaws of a needle nose vise grip to the size of the plug (outside) part of the connector. Slide one jaw under the plastic retaining clip to keep the connector unlatched. Close the pliers gently around the plug. Hold the inside part of the connector and pull gently on the pliers and the plug slides out easily. (Of course, there's always the possibility that I was just lucky with both connectors.)
