it does not power up. And where I live there are no close buildings. I live in the country. The sky is far as I can see so that is not my problem. I had a satellite radio in the jeep commander which I got rid of so I know it is not cause the area I live

Power and your location have nothing to do with each other. Buildings would affect your signal. So are you having power issues or signal issues?

If your GPS powers using the 12v, then something was wrong with that unit.

Something must be wrong. I have a sirius and a cold cathode light kit sharing the 12 v plug and both work perfectly!
