You said it looked like a butcher took it out. Probably a thief, in a hurry. Just a thought.

Seller had 400+ transactions (both ways) on eBay with a 100% rating over 8 years AND the K40 came with the original boxes and unsued bits and parts of the mounting kit. I'd say that chances are he was the original owner.

A flick of the switch, and by the time your detector goes off, you are bagged. As far as laser goes, the very best you can hope for is to pick up the scatter from another car near you. If I put the red dot on your front end and pull the trigger, I can get get 5 reads with 5 pulls before you slow down 5 mph. Keep it under ten over, and no one will look at you twice. Enjoy.......
As a former reserve LEO from a number of years ago, and as I'm sure that you (xscrew229) know, any LEO who has worked traffic for just a short time can quickly tell exactly how fast a car is going (within about plus/minus 3 mph) just by sight. The radar is just confirmation. With the instant-on lasers, it's just like you say. First, they see you, and they already know what your speed is, then they pull the trigger, and the speed on the gun is the same speed that will be written on the ticket. You can go to court to fight it, but you're gonna lose 99% of the time. With the old radar guns, we just kept the radar gun turned on a warmed up, and flicked the switch to turn OFF the antenna. Pretty much the same principle as the more recent "instant-on" radars, and pretty much the same results. It's actually pretty funny to see someone's face turn bright red from the full board of lights going off on their trusty radar detector at night, mounted on their visor! I DO agree with the part about actual "speed traps" that are set up simply for revenue, though. I also feel the same way about the DUI traps outside bars! Got pulled over by a local LEO one time for leaving a bar that I'd JUST arrived at. Found out there was a cover charge that I didn't want to pay, so we left. Hadn't had a drink in DAYS!!! He felt awfully STUPID when I told him that. He tried to make me look bad in front of the girl that I was with, and I said, "Hey, I'm not the one that pulled over a completely sober driver for NO REASON, now AM I???"

You'll be looked at in my state. 42 mph in a 35 mph zone = $158.00 fine.

I drive through radar all the time at 4+ spped limit...no one has ever come after me. Don;t need much more than that. In WV thats 74 mph and that fast enough for me. It's cheap too!

Just tried (on a private road) my wife's US smart 451's top speed and the speed limiter gently steps in at 91mph (on the Garmin).

I recently got a ticket for going 6 over in SC. 2 points and $80. Fighting it because I like to keep my record point free.
Living in southern Florida it is dangerous to follow the speed limit on most highways. Driving on the Palmetto expressway is quite the example. With a speed limit of 55, I cruise along in the right lane at around 70 getting passed by people in all the other lanes. I would not feel safe going 55 on that road.

Got my only speeding ticket in Florida about 15 years ago on a road I travel frequently. The limit went from 45 to 25 within a very short distance. No one in his or her mind would hit the brake to accomodate this set up.
I just got of the gas as usual until the car slowed down by itself...unfortunately a LEO was waiting for me and cheerfully gave me a ticket.
I took a class to get the ticket off my record. It's still there until I cease and desist. In addition I travel on a road every morning at about 5-8 miles above the posted 30 mph and still have cars crawling up my rear.
I need to go about 45 until cars keep a decent distance and then I have to explain this to a cop? Ya can't win...
