Sound Deadening

Anyone taken the plunge to add sound deadening material to their smart? If so, please post specifics: How-To, materials used, where installed, panel removal.

Photos would be great.

Thanks

Found great way to reduce noise. Goes great with my Black/Silver passion. It installs easily over ones head.

I have already put down Dynamat 10415 Xtreme in my smart. I went 360 meaning the seating area, doors, back trunk area and sides and the tailgate. I have mounted 2 Pioneer TS-A1782R 6 3/4 4 way speakers in the rear tailgate storage area and under the front passenger seat I installed a Kenwood KSC-SW10 150W Compact Powered Subwoofer. This all complements my AVIC-D3 stereo.

I am in the middle of creating a website with all of the how-to pictures, video and more!

Gary

Except it is illegal to wear head phones while driving. It may vary by state. I think you can wear them over 1 ear but not both ears.

OMG!
fine components like the avic and dynamat combined with such junk like pioneer- and kenwood-loudspeakers? and to top that loudspeakers in the rear?

ok - i'm shocked, because as an "highender" i would NEVER install loudspeakers in the rear of a car. ;)
most of the people, wich heard my old smart asked me, where the rearspeakers are, because the "liveness" and the "room" where so perfect.
i always said then "great sound is made in front of you! every loudspeaker that's somewhere else destroys good sound!"
ok - most of the people where also shocked, as they heard, how much only my tweeters cost...

oh and before i listen to any sound out of a bose-thing, i'd prefer to cut my ears of!

There are only two compact powered subs that will fit (under seats or in passenger firewall) in the 451; the Blaupunkt THb 200A or the Kenwood KSC-SW10. I did not want to take up trunk space with a custom enclosure and fit amps and all of that junk that "highenders" like to do .

I originally added a pair of highs to the stock crap and then the AVIC and in the end settled with the sound by placing the 4-ways in the rear. In my opinion, and of course I have to ride in my car, it sounded the best with the door speakers which got replaced as well. For the cost of the 4-ways, it made sense because I am not entering in any contests and the human ear can only compute so far in the harmonic scale .

To each their own and happy smart modding!

It seemed to make the most difference in the front, probably on the floor. The powered sub filling the passenger compartment area behind the glovebox also reduced noise too, IMHO.

Covering the weatherproofing on the outside of the doors also helped a lot but I can't tell if anything in the back made an impact.

Some of the ABS had a tough time going back on in the back pilars. I thought those bare metal areas would have been the points to deadend the sound but I just can't tell back there.
