Car 1: 2008 Passion - Radio 9 with Polk 651's in the doors. No amp or Sub
Car 2: 2008 Passion - Radio 10 with Infinity 6022i's in the doors. No amp or Sub.
I've had my polks in my car for a couple of months now... I haven't been overly impressed with the sound quality but I'm not expert so I don't know if I'm expecting more than I should.
We installed the Infinity's in the other car yesterday and the sound was much more impressive in my opinion.
My question is this... I've been told that the output of the radio 9 and radio 10 are the same... so are the Infinity speakers that much better than the polks?
My main issue with the polks is that if I seem to lose the mid levels... and if I turn up the volume to get the mids it seems the speakers can't handle the bass... I only want a happy medium.
Infinities are good speakers, but if both are in the standard speaker fitments, you are never going to get the best of sounds, I would opt for an amp and small bass box in the rear just to help it out a little with the bottom end, it gives a rounder sound, not that expensive either.

Thoughts???
Oye. Which speaker sounds best is as personal as which super model you think is the most beautiful, or does Swiss or Belgian chocolate taste best. (Actually it is Argentinian Chocolate, but I digress...)
Both the Polk and the Infinity are good quality. Which sound best is up to you. One more thing. A good install can make the difference. And the suggestion of more power with a sub is a good one.
My smart cabrio with radio 10 came with the factory subwoofer under the front seat, which is OK. Don't you have one? There is enough power unless you are nuts. The door speakers, however, suck. My audio shop swapped them for Alpines, and the stockers are paper cones, a magnet about the size of a condom ring, and not even two-way as advertised. It is a tough install for DYIers - the mirrors and door skins have to come off (access is from the rear ONLY). Alpine, Infinity, Polk are all good premium brands. As an audio engineer, I can tell you with certainty that speakers are as personal as clothing choices. If it sounds good to YOU, buy it. Shop eBay.
Besides the obvious doors, the subwoofer is under the driver's seat. The tweeters are behind the screen, at either edges of the windshield, in front of the dashboard.

those tweeters are well hidden...
then I take it the mid-range are the door speakers?
^^^ yes i guess you can call them mid range. not true comps. easy and cheap way for them to get away with it. same thing they do in jeeps and Chrysler.
