... as an ex-broadcaster also involved in the recording industry, I have to say that the challenge in finding the perfect speaker(s) for a studio/control room is to find a system that doesn't soothe the sound flatteringly, that is to say with as flat a response curve as possible. This is the only way to judge to quality of a recording. If the playback is later altered to please the listener, it's fine. But, since various music require various "colors" (or equalization), it is important to have a system that remains flat to start with...
An overly pleasing, cajoling speaker is like salt: you can always add to it, but you cannot take it back!
Cheap speakers are usually shiny in the middle and too round in the bass.
