Tweeter placement

Would mounting the tweeters on the top of the A/C vents be a good alternative to the a-pillar mount. There is plenty of room for a flush or surface mount. It would reflect the sound directly off the windshield toward the listeners. Pillar installs reflect to the side instead of in your face.

Would a flush mount work knowing that air would blow across the bottom of the tweeter?

This is not my car as I have not installed tweeters yet. I snagged it to show how the vents are positioned...

I thought the little holes in the L and R sides of the dash next to the air vents were for tweeter placement. I saw a smart car (i think it was Chris's in SF) that had tweeters in there as a dealer installed addon along with his fancy nav system.

the factory harness is already wired for tweeters near the a-pillars in the dash. the leads are taped up under the dash in those locations - plug-n-play.

What info do you want?

I sent my tweeters to a fellow SCoA member (along with the rest of the Radio10 upgrade package). The factory tweeters go in the very corner of the dash, pointing up at the windshield. Shine a flashlight in the outermost holes of what looks like the defroster vents at first glance and you'll see there's some space underneath the grates at the end.

The passenger side is most accessible. If you get your head under the dash and look to nearly the furthest point, you'll see a plastic "tab" that's parallel to the top surface, about 3/4" of a gap where the factory tweeter slides in. No tools needed for the right tweeters; they slide in and out with little effort.

The connector on the passenger side (according to a Feb showroom car photo) should be taped on the wiring harness running left to right near the front of the under-dash cavity. If you put your hand under the right of the dash with your wrist on the dash, you should feel the cloth-covered wiring harness with the 2-wire tweeter wires breaking out of the bundle there. The connector is yellow and black: not difficult to miss.

The driver side tweeter is harder to get to and may be better done when the driver side seat is removed for subwoofer installation. I'm told the fuse box actually hinges down giving better access to the back area. In that case, the 2-wire tweeter connection comes out of the wiring harness about 3" from the point where the wiring harness goes through the firewall above the brake.

I had fun taking things out and I think fun was had on the other side getting stuff back in.
