If you like JL subs, they do make a shallow sub as well.

JL Audio: TW5 Subwoofers

JL thin sub is too expensive, Pioneer thin sub would be great for this application. The CDT sounds very good, but could be a little better. I'm either lacking power or air space, just shy of the requirement.

I'm hoping the JL stealth box will come out soon.

Ok I ordered the dash box today and the fosgate sub P2 and taking the cover off to gain space. I will see how this turns out and will post. My buddy has his own box he built but has a JL speaker. We see what sounds best and put this thread to some completeness. Total cost for sub and speaker set.. (184) I was really trying to stay below 200 and meet the needs of the box with space being priority.

Fill it with some polyester fillings, will trick the sub to see a bigger box.

JL now makes a Stealthbox, but it sells for $175 more than the box and JL 8 3w3 from 4smart.com. The guy you talk with at 4smart seems an obvious salesman, but also seems to know what he's talking about. I have had Crutchfield tell me the same about the "filler" making the box "effectively bigger".

Are we worrying too much?

BTW - whose sub enclosure box is it that you are talking about? The only 2 I ever hear about here are smartmadness and 4smart.

Just FYI - there's also a sub box from scp-parts.com. Good supplier (and supporting vendor).

Are all these boxes (except for the JL fiberglass one) basically the same? They all look identical. The prices are about the same, is there a quality of construction/materials difference?

we can supply one that installs in the passenger footwell.
see this earlier post 85 watt subwoofer available for 450 and 451

I've got the 8" underdash sub from 4smartcar.com and it sounds FANTASTIC. Can't see a bit more space in the sub box would make any appreciable difference. This sub kicks is it is.
