Underdash sub vs. Boss bass 600, etc.

I see lots of feedback on the various underdash subs, (Threads, posts, etc.) But hardly any mention of the Boss amplified subs such as the 8" 600 or the 10" 1200. I've seen a couple people mention they had one and that they install it behind the driver seat. Otherwise, no real feedback on whether they're any good. I'm not looking for something that will rattle my teeth out, but instead just something that would fill in the low frequencies nicely. Their own site prices them at $215, but I see them elsewhere for as little as $130. One of its selling points for me is that I like the simplicity of not needing to buy a separate amp.

Anybody have one installed?
How do you like it?
I'm assuming even though it's small, it still isn't small enough to go under the drivers seat in the factory position?

Feedback please?

I have the bass 600, which I use in conjunction with the Pioneer radio that the dealer installed. It works great. I put it behind my driver's seat and put the wiring under the carpet (which is easy to pull up). I would say its a few hours to install it if you wish to hide the wiring under the carpet. It's a great little sub for the car. It won't rattle your number plate, but it will certainly help those two over-worked speakers in the doors. If you can filter out the low tones from the door speakers, then they don't have to work so hard and your high's will sound better as well as the better lows from your bass module. I'd recommend it as the best bang for your buck at making your audio system sound good.

My only issue: I was afraid to drill screws into the panel behind the seat because I'm not sure whether I would hit the fuel tank or something equally important, so I used the included velcro strips. The velcro strips attached to the carpet increadibly well, but the glue that attached them to the subwoofer did not. Now I have two velcro strips that I can't pull off of my carpet, and I have to reach behind my seat and adjust my subwoofer's position after a sharp turn so it does not vibrate against the seat. Anyone know where I can screw in the mounts? Any pics?

Cheers
Carl

What i have done is put some 3/4 inch thick mdf behind the seat you want to mount something. the carpet is tight enought that you don't have to screw in the mdf. all the one's i have done it on it was good. them i just screwed the amp onto the mdf board. no holes in the smart and nothing moves. hope this helps.

Am pleased with unit behind seat. Made brackets that are sandwiched between seat screws and U shaped slide frames and use these as a foundation for various aluminum angles that complement the back of the vehicle. I then used the small threaded holes that would usually hold the rubber bumbers to connect unit to these brackets. All adjustments are facing passenger side.
Yet...I have an unresolved issue. I get engine sound thru unit and haven't really addressed that issue.
If anyone would have a solution for connecting I would greatly appreciate it.

Woof Woof

I had to rush out of the house this morning so I didn't tell you how pleased I am with the BASS 600's prodigious sound.
I am very pleased with the various adjustments on the unit. They make it possible for the driver to get a wonderful kick in the pants when the woofer is set properly.
I use Infinity speakers in the doors that yield a good high end and moderate bass. The model 10 radio... which is a fair radio supplies the various modes of entertainment.
I tried my best to get the subwoofer under the seat but it was not to be.
I even considered raising the seat up a 1/2" to accomodate it but that meant longer screws and we all sit up high enough in that little smart anyway.
Here are a few things I want to share with you-
There is an adjustment with a bright blue light that is used often by the driver to adjust the bass according to the source. I mounted that bracket on the outside (left) wall of the small storage space right below the driver's side window vent. This is an annoying bright light and in that location it is masked by the steering wheel from the driver and passenger.
The purpose of the light is to indicate whether the subwoofer is functioning,
which leads me to my wiring problem. I used the black wire from the radio (which was bundled up with other speaker wires located under the driver's seat) to turn the subwoofer automatically ON. This wire delivers voltage when the radio is turned ON.
Unfortunately when the radio is turned OFF the subwoofer still remains ON until I stop the engine. Then the wire finally stops giving the pilot voltage to the subwoofer and it shuts OFF
So I still have to address this problem. I also have engine noise sneaking thru the unit when the car is first turned ON. This mostly subsides after a minute but it is still annoyingly present. I need electrical help here because I am dumbfounded with all the chokes, filters routing of wires, size of wires, etc.
Maybe the subwoofer has a poor internal filtration system to begin with. Perhaps the fact that it is located right by the engine may have something to do with it. I remain puzzled at this time. I hope my trials and tribulations have helped a bit.
