Blue Ox base plate installed

Below are some pictures of a Blue Ox base plate and tow bar I had installed at Northgate RV in Chattanooga, Tn. I think I posted these on March 11th, so they were lost as was everything after March 10th.

Thanks for the photos, Brad. I've got a question about the system though - how did you handle the tow bar angle from the car to the RV? In my case I have a 2007 Bounder 35E on the workhorse chassis and the receiver sits quite high - right now I have a 8 1/2 inch drop ball mount that doesn't make my tow dolly level. When I get my smart set up with the Blue Ox I think I'm going to need at least 10 inches of drop, if not more. That's a lot of leverage to apply to that receiver.

The receiver on my camper is set low enough that I only have a couple inches off-set, so I don't have that problem.

Hey, Brad,

Just a followup - have you had a chance to actually let your smart push your RV yet? If so, how did it do? Do you just shift it into N and then shut down the engine? Do you leave the key in the ignition or remove it? Does the key even come out if the tranny is in N?

Sorry for the questions - we're getting ours set up probably next week and I want to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Turn the ignition on, put it in "N" then turn off ignition off as far as it will go. It wont turn all the way off and you can't take the key out. I then check to make sure it is in "N" by rolling it a foot or so, just to be sure.

This tread has disappeared from the "Smart car towing" category. the only way I found it was by checking the post for "Tenn_Brad".
