Car Topper Turned Trailer

Here's my version of the car topper turned trailer. It's a 20cf X-Cargo cartop carrier from Sears. I had a local trailer maker put it together. The lights are mounted in the carrier lid and the fenders are bolted to the carrier lid also. I don't have an exact weight, but it can't weigh much over 100 lbs (if that). If you live in NE Indiana, PM me and I will give you the trailer maker's number. It was $750 all together.

Here's what I did - Harbor Freight 3.5 x 4' utility trailer with an x-cargo car topper mounted on it. I can also take off the cargo box, and put on stake-sides for more bulky hauling (I'll have pics of that next month, when I take it like that to our Poker Run)

I want one of those! How does it handle when loaded? Did that $750 include your hitch? And, I wonder how you find a trailer builder ... yellow pages? Doesn't it require a license plate? Questions, questions, questions.

Those are both fine little trailers. Now that we have the hitch installed a little low cost cargo trailer would be very handy. A2Jack

That is definitely a reason I went with the Harbor Freight trailer - under $200 for the trailer, plus (in my case) about $50 for extras (spare tire, black paint, carriage bolts, etc) plus the cost of the car topper (sadly, I gave my old one away last year..). Total was under $300 for the whole thing. And now, with an additional $40, I am building the stake-sides.

Blast! I thought I had everything but I didn't have my spring mounts like thought I did so I didn't finish it today. I had vision while I was building it so it's not going to be a car top carrier like everyone else's. Hopefully I'll have it done in the next few weeks - I have a long weekend coming up so maybe I'll get it done then.
