Curt Hitch ???

Curt now is showing two different hitches for the smart - the #11018 and the #11020. It looks like they are discontinuing the #11018 because on the website it says "while supplies last". The #11020 has a higher tow rating (2000/200) and requires a little more drilling so the installation time is a little longer. They are both the same price ($169.63). Has anyone installed the larger one? TIA - sheureka

If I'm not mistaken, the original hitch was held on by 4 bolts while the updated version is held on by 6 - physically/visibly they are the same size. My hitch came with a note saying it was held on with 6 bolts and drilling would be required if I wanted the higher capacity. I'm sure that note is out lying in the garage since I haven't cleaned it in several months.

I have the later and if memory serves correct, it has a manufacture date of around early December. I thought it was neat how I ordered the hitch and received it within just 2 weeks of its manufacture date.

Hope that helps a little.

Who else sells hitches?
$169.63 (shipped) was the best i could find. I assume smart madness was also offering free shipping too.

Update...... smartmadness wants $30 for shipping!

Considering it is $20 for shipping a cruise control that is pretty lightweight - that's a deal on shipping!!!

Guys,

We offer over 480 items for the smart. At times it is impossible for us to know every price out there as in this case.

A online only shop that drop ships a variety of hitches gets a better deal than us on this products since they sell many kinds. Since we deal only with smart cars our volume with Curt is small.

Due to this our cost is higher. We have to base our pricing on our costs. Most of the time we have the lowest price, sometimes you may find an item lower somewhere else. If that is ever a case we will match or beat it. All you have to do is give us a call at 562-961-6800. It is that simple.

Please keep in mind that even though we have grown to be one of the leaders in the smart community, we are still a small family business that invested their money and time in to this because we own smart cars, love them and beloeve if we provide a good service, charge a fair price and take care of our customers we can grow and make smart madness a success.

In case some of you do not know smart madness is operated by me (Boris) and my Fiance (Rachel). We have 2 additional people that we hired on as we grew (Tim and Mark). Some folks think we are somekind of big company that could care less about you, the smart car owner and is just out to make a buck. We are are a small and friendly group that simply loves what we do. Those that have met us personally will probably agree (at least I hope so).

So, please if we can ever be of assistance call us. We will always try to do our best to help.

If we ever drop the ball please PM me personally and I will assist.

In regards to the $20 shipping on the cruise control...

We charge a flat $20 for shipping and handling for this unit. That means we open it, inspect every part to make sure nothing got damaged on its way from Germany. We then we repack it and ship it by UPS. We also request a signature so the UPS guy doesn't leave in by your door unattended. In adiition, we also insure it for $400 for your security. I think that is fair.

Sorry to go on and on, but we care what the community thinks of us and always want to make sure are on top of things.

Respectfully,
Boris T.

Boris - I've heard NOTHING BUT GREAT things about you guys so you are obviously doing something/everything right since your business is growing. Unfortunately Shipping & Handling has always been a very personal thing for me and a deal breaker on certain purchases. Either way, keep up the great work!

bentoutofshape
- just walk on down to your LOCAL Mom & Pop UHaul dealer and you may just be pleasantly surprised at the price AND you can keep money in your local community since you have the opportunity.

Uhaul was asking $189 plus 8 percent in taxes. They did offer to discount $10 if i had them install it, but i would of had to pay an extra $30 to get wired up. I told them where to put it

Smartmaddness,
If your really wanting to make your company grow, i know a few guys you could talk to. I'm only giving you this offer

I ordered a Curt Hitch from the "Hitch Store" in TN. Got it in 3 days, workmanship is outstanding. They have free shipping.
Now does anyone know if a "Plug In" trailer light harness is available for a 451?
