Now does anyone know if a "Plug In" trailer light harness is available for a 451?
I could not find one. I used a standard flat plug. It is directly wired to weach light. the smart has a two wire system ( your brake and blinker is the same bulb ). No third directional bulb.

Are you kidding? Did you look at the size of the wire that smart uses for their tail/brakelights? There is no way in hell that I would run any trailer lights off those tiny wires. Those 18 gauge(?) wires would melt long before the fuse blows. I purchased a powered plug for my smart. It was well worth the piece of mind.

I've looked and looked............

Has anyone had any "clearance" problems with this hitch?

It seems sooooo low

I'm seriously looking at this hitch, but would like to know if I'll be running into clearance issues as the car is so low already

$169.63 (shipped) was the best i could find. I assume smart madness was also offering free shipping too.

Update...... smartmadness wants $30 for shipping!
bentoutofshape, here is a trailer hitch site that carries Smart car hitches. You still have to pay for shipping, and have it installed. This is the cheapest I've ever seen one. Check it out!!!!!!!!!

That's the original Curt hitch that's been discontinued - and they want $56 for shipping (to Arizona). For $10 more I'd get the newer Class I/II model. Mine was delivered in 2 days from the Hitch Store. - sheureka

Gargoyle: What is a powered Plug? How does it work, what do they cost and who sells them?

I got my Curt Hitch from the "Hitch Store", no charge for shipping.
I had to go to a shop that specializes in hitches to get it installed, my daughter paid for the installation as a gift and would not tell me what it cost.

Curt and U-Haul are the same hitch. Sold and Installed, with wiring, $220 by my local U-haul dealer.

I had the Smart and trailer delivered to U-Haul and all was right when I drove it away. No hassle. A2Jack.

Pix is Wendy,GM, and Darrel, installer, at U-Haul Ann Arbor. This was the district's first Smart install.

Yes they did, but it may have been a courtesy, as I was their first Smart customer. A2Jack
