Dooit: sports trailer converts to lightweight camper

I saw an article on Gizmag site on the Dooit trailers.

It looks like an ideal trailer for the Smart Fortwo and other small compact cars. I like the temt option.

The tent option is $1149. Seems a bit excessive

It seems it would be cheaper to buy the trailer and put ones own tent on it. The trailer seems high compared to what one gets; $1595. Here is the pricing part of the site. It makes the Compact Camping Concept seems reasonable.

Here are a few Dooit Camper alternates;

A CE Smith MultiSport Trailer, it's 12 lbs lighter and $920 less.


A Habor Freight 35"x55" box trailer, it's 4 lbs more and $1355 less.


With both of these options you can get a trailer and folding tent unit for less than the cost of the trailer.

Use an Oasis Rooftop Tent and save at 50 lbs compared to the weight of other roof top tents.

schaney, good ideas, I think I might be picking up that box trailer soon, or maybe just get one of their smaller plank trailers and boxing it in myself. That tent would be GREAT for a solo trip.

Honestly, $1200 is just about the going rate on a safari rated roof top tent, so that's not horrible.

The tent on trailer looks like something from Compact Camping Concepts.

The highend outfitter/expedition grade tents like Eezi Awn and Autohome start around $1650. Ones like the Mombasa Outdoor tents start at $799.

The Oasis tents are actually sized well for couples, the base is 58" x 85".
