Inexpensive little trailer

Here is an inexpensive ($169, doesn't get much cheaper) little trailer I just ordered for my smart. All you have to do is add a roof top carrier from Sears, Walmart etc. and away you go. Looks like it will be easy to convert for my 16' canoe as well. Very light at 180 lbs. A few different styles to choose from. I searched for about two weeks online and couldn't believe the outrageous prices that companies want for such a small item. I think I'm going to like this one as the possibilities with it are numerous. Have to think about my hitch now.....hmmmmm http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=90153

Sorry about that. The site wouldn't let me post it. I hope all is good now. Cheers.

Step-by-step

These sorts of trailer mods have been a fixture in the motorcycle world for some time. Here's a link to pictures and a "how-to" process for rolling your own. http://davedragon.rilysi.com/2007/11...ct-rilysi.html

And another take on the same idea: http://www.gadgetjq.com/trailer.htm

Here's a home-built trailer using the same cargo box: http://burgmanusa.com/gallery/Tailwi...geViewsIndex=1

My thoughts exactly. Great ideas, excellent sites, excellent pics. Thanx for sharing. Sure beats paying 2k for basically the same thing.

Here is another site pretty much like the ones above. A little work and ingenuity can go a long way and save a lot of money. http://www.thegreatwhiteknight.com/html/trailer.html

This looks like a great find, but how do you attach it to the car?

You just need a trailer hitch and electrical wiring for lights/brake lights. There are apparently trailer hitches available - someone on this site has pictures but so far no link to who does them.

Excellent & smart approved 451 hitch

www.clevertrailer.com

Not cheap but very well put together.

U-Haul's installation on my 2000 Dodge Caravan cost me my spare tire & my brakes. Luckily I was driving. Learned the emergency brake trick while holding the release to avoid showing cops my brake lights when I was a kid. Oh, u-Haul did pay to replace and fix everything.

I am working with the owner to see if smartcenterwarwick.com will install them. But if I did the conversion from Swiss francs correctly the full unit costs $675 including shipping to USA.
