Looks good and would be fun to "custom" build, but 1500# is more than a smart will be interested in pulling, or, more importantly, stopping!

There's not a whole lot of options for the Smart here in the U.S. The limit is 880 pounds or are people going above that towing limit? You certainly would need a braked system if you did!

I like the Airstream Basecamp which is way too heavy (1950 dry...would tip the smart right over) although it's a bit too ultra-modern I like the toy hauler door design more than anything. A mini-version would tempt me.

Basecamp is pretty cool! Looks like they don't make Bambi anymore, that was their smallest "stand-up" trailer..

Personally I very much like the Camp-Inn teardrop trailers.

The 550 Model is the one I like. They are pretty pricey though.

Cool Trailer! Seems a bit heavy and tall for the Smart IMO. I wouldn't hesitate to tow it behind a Street Rod though.

Here's another option, and one I plan to implement next year (I hope):
Harbor Freight trailer (<$200)
car-top tent (choose from the following)

Cartop Tents - Lofty Shelters - Car & Truck Roof Top Tent Camper
Color Photo of Top Bunk®

If you are looking for an ultra-light-weight mobile bedroom (and, after all, that's about all you are getting with a tear-drop for 8k+, while maintaining a reasonable weight for the smart), this may just be the way to go.

Nice plan and I'm sure people do it, but the owners manual says nothing mounted on the roof. So, it woudn't be for me.

Neat how many different people can read the same thing but define it differently. I imagined the car top tent going on the trailer instead of the roof to avoid exactly what you mentioned from the owners manual.

I guess if it is light weight enough to be pulled by a motorcycle, it can be pulled by a Smart Fortwo? Compact Trailers.
