Tow Bracket & Wiring Questions

Here is what I have so far:

1. Smart car
2. Blue Ox Aladdin Tow Bar with safety cables.
3. And I am installing a class III hitch on the vehicle that I plan to tow the Smart, which I bought a Hopkins 26555 wiring kit for this hitch. So here is where my questions start...the Hopkins seems to be a 4 wire kit.

AmazonAmazon
I got off the phone with a confused Blue Ox representative who wasn't sure but seemed to imply that I'd need a 6 or 7 wire plug.

The part that confuses me is so I buy the BX8848 wiring kit for the Smart car for around $75-85 (which seems like just wire and wire connectors and four 6amp diodes) but doesn't that just go to the very front bumper of the Smart. The lady on the phone seemed to think it would go all the way to the hitch on the driving vehicle, but that seems like a wiring mess.

Or is my tow vehicle suppose to have wiring long enough to make it to the Smart car.

It was my understanding that if you want a quick connect/disconnect that you would buy the BX8861 which is a 4 wire coiled extension cable but when I suggested that to the Blue Ox representative she hesitated and put me on hold and said well, it's only 6 feet long indicating it wouldn't work and basically just told me to ask the RV dealership. So I called around and they are all closed and I hate going into a situation not knowing what I need and just having someone sell me something. The coiled cable looks easy and I plan to connect and disconnect the Smart quite often so I'd like an easy connecting process. I don't plan to keep the Aladdin on the hitch when the Smart isn't attached. I saw Tenn_Brad has wires wrapped around his tow bracket which would work if you planned to just keep the tow bar attached to your motorhome but I will be taking it off each time I disconnect the Smart. How long is this Aladdin tow bar? I bought one and it arrived and I took it out of the box and from what I can tell it looks like that coil system would be ideal.

I'm not looking to save money, just looking for the cleanest/fastest connecting wiring cable connections. I don't want to deal with tangled wires and loose wires. Something easy. Has anybody gone through this?

Here's the installation guide for the Blue Ox Tow Bracket.

I'm trying to decide if I can install this myself. I've called the three dealers in my area and I have a specific deadline to get it installed before I have to leave. Ideally, it'd be easier to have someone else do it, but I also like to take things apart. The Blue Ox rep seemed to think it was difficult, but the guide seems straightforward.

Basically want to know what you bought to make it work...specifically, the wiring and then on a secondary note would be the installation process. I think what the Blue Ox rep might be referring to is that BX88206 7 or 6 coiled electrical extension cable and it seemed like the Smart wiring kit might be 6 or 7 wires the way she was talking (in a very confused way).

But my vehicle is 4 wires (the hopkins 26555 kit) and the Smart is 4 diodes (so I assumed it was 4 wires) which is why I was thinking the BX8861 is what you would need. Anybody gone through this headache already?

Just got back from having Roadmaster install base plates and brackets on my smart passion. That part it seems was easy, 4 1/2 hours later however; the installers couldn't figure out how to wire in the brake lighting. It seems that when they would install, as you would with a regular car; it inhibits the lights from functioning at all. I had a thought that the Automatic headlight sensing may have something to do with it. The key has to be in the on position to enable the lighting circuits, this is not good. The techs were baffled. Good luck doing this yourself, I wouldn't. BTW, got a good look at the battery compartment under the passanger side floor pan. Couldn't think of any other place they could have found to put it so cudo's for that.
