Tow harness attachment on car?

If you have installed (or had installed) the tow plate on your smart for towing behind a motorhome; how has the wiring harness that connects to your motorhome's lights been installed? Was it attached to a bracket and inside the grill or hanging loose outside the grill?

We're getting ready to do our own install and this particular part is not obvious.

Thanks!

Hamp

Smart Trailer USA
Perhaps you could ask them since they make the trailers that are used in towing a Smart?

That won't help him any since he's installing a "base plate" for towing.

Try this: Installing Baseplate , don't know IF it will help or not??

Anybody that has the smart set up to tow behind your motorhome - could you send a close-up picture of the wiring harness attachment?

Thanks!!

I don't know anything about this personally, but found this link Downloads Look at the last doc on this list for wiring diagram.

Thanks, but I don't need a wiring diagram.
I'm trying to learn how to attach the actual plug that comes out of the smart and connects to the motorhome's wiring/lights.

Might be best to contact the manufacturer of the kit and see if they have the hookup diagram; just a suggestion

Here's the Blue Ox instructions; don't know if it will help you: http://www.blueox.us/PDFS/BX8847.PDF

Yes - excellent idea. Done and waiting. But several folks here have installed this base plate on their smarts and I'd love to see how someone has already done this.

Here is a photo of ours. The Blue Ox base plate BX1989 (I think) has provision for the wiring connector. I used a 6 pin. Here is a photo.

Smart Willie:

THANK YOU!
We have the parts for the blue ox plate and the separate wiring kit all opened up; but no bracket for the connector that we saw. Did you fabricate your own bracket or did a shop do this for you?
