You don't have to go to a dealer that sells Blue Ox - any competent installer can follow the directions they provide and do the installation.
You need chains or cables.
You do not need the cover but it is nice to have.
There are various ways to connect for lights. I did not use the Blue Ox wiring kit.

Has anyone used the Unified Tow Brake System from US Gear for supplemental braking when towing a Smart Car? Although at 1800 lbs, supplemental braking may not be needed, many states require all tow cars to have a breakaway braking system. I have a US Gear system on my motorhome and would like to install the related system on the Smart Car that was previously installed on another two car, but I'm not sure where to make the connections. I contacted US Gear and they said they have no info on installing their system on a Smart Car since the Smart Car is not suitable for towing. They, obviously, have not done their homework!
