6'x8' trailer but do you know the weight of it? The one pictured below is 8'x12' and I don't go far at all with it. Most I did was about 70 miles round trip one time to deliver a mattress. I haven't had any problems towing with it but like I said, it was just once that distance. A few other times when we dropped the trailer off someplace else locally and needed to grab the trailer and get it back to the place where I store it.

My regular use trailer is smaller. Just for groceries and some other special items that I carry in there. No pictures yet, not for another month and a half.

You have a nice fleet of cars BBB, and trailers!

Is there any weight/s listed that says how much tongue or towing weight it can handle safely?

Owners manual says don't tow.

I've heard from a guy that claimed he got an official answer from smart and was told 1000lbs. I think that'd be pushing it. For myself, personally I'll try not to exceed 600lbs in rare cases while sticking to a whooping 275lbs regularly.

That's just me so take it FWIW....an opinion.

Towing

Bum Bling B
You are about right with the towing weight its about 500kg 1102 Ibs

I did come across a site over 3 year ago which did state that the older model 450
2000-2006 Fortwo which was only sold in Europe had gone through offical testing for a towing certificate (which helps for claims for insurance purposes).

International testing company TÜV Product Service certifies the smart "fortwo" to a maximum towing capacity of 330kg (726lbs) with tongue weight not to exceed 20kg (66lbs), so long as the total gross weight (vehicle + trailer + occupants + luggage) does not exceed 1240kg (2728lbs). dated 23/06/2006

I found A website on towing

Which states the GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT rate is 2315 Ibs = 1050kg
Smart payload 463 Ibs = 210kg

Now after scouring the net I got some more info.

(Seats Up) 340 Max(749.57 Ibs). Towing Weight - Unbraked N Max. Loading Weight 270 Max(595 Ibs). Towing Weight - Braked N Luggage Capacity (Seats Down) N Minimum Kerbweight 750(1653 Ibs) Gross Vehicle Weight 1020 (2248 Ibs)General EURO NCAP

This was a Ad in the UK for a 2007 Smart fortwo Model(451): Smart 1.0 Pulse 2dr Auto - Colour: Star Blue/Black - Transmission: Automatic - Engine: 999 cc - Fuel: Petrol

When it comes to this subject it is tricky ,but the less weight pulled the better for the wear and tear on your smart car and saftey reasons. Don't excessed the vehicles own weight take in account passengers ,luggage.
whats left will give you a idea on the weight of the trailer you can pull.(this is only personal suggestion not fact)
I hope this helps

I am moving to Seattle Washington from Utah. My brother and i are moving up there and and we have got a lot of things to take with us and not nearly enough room. The car is a Ford Taurus with no racks on top and no way to attach a little trailer on the back. I would prefer not hsving to attach the little knob required to pull a trailer and was wondering if there is a device that would "temporarily" attach to the roof of the car and give us a significant amount of room to store things, without any drilling or damage to the finish.
