I have seen those little trailers. They were usually towed behind a motorcycle. They are really neat.

Campgrounds on dirt roads

We've read lots of literature and really love the Timeout Camper. One campground we really like involves 70 miles of gravel and dirt roads across the desert, with a lot of sand for the last 8 miles or so. (Saline Valley on the west end of Death Valley Natl. Park)

My question is: Will the Smart Car pulling a trailer make it over this rough road, or is it likely to "bottom out" and get stuck. Will we just have to forget about Saline Valley until we get a larger vehicle? (Our other car is a 2006 Mustang V6, which I'm pretty sure doesn't do well on the dirt and sand.)

It would pull fine on dirt roads, but depending on the road it will rattle the heck out of the light weight trailer.

FWIW, I have well over 1,000 miles of dirt roads on my smart.

Trailer rattling

Donnyonee, that is a beautiful rig. Did you do the paint job yourself?

Regarding Bum-bling-B's comment about rattling, does your Timeout have a sturdy frame all the way around, covering the back end? Will it rattle badly and get beaten up on rough roads?

Not answering for donny but I do know a few towers here have a anti-rattle attachment on their receiver. You will get a huge about of noise from the receiver itself if you don't have one of those.

Just decided to do the math on how many dirt road miles on my car. I was astounded!! I have OVER 4,000 miles of dirt road on my smart!!!! Dead serious. That is a low estimate too!
