Wiring to tow a trailer?

Howdy all.
OK, so I found out from the forum how to add a trailer hitch.

Now how do you add the trailer wiring plug?
According to smartcaruniverse.com due to our car's electronics, it requires "Trailer Wiring Modulator Kit with fittings ($70 CDN)"

Anyone have any experiences (good or bad) attaching a standard US "flat four" plug?

Got this from another forum

"For my MINI I used a "Powered" plug that "protects your car's computer from the trailer"

Lots of manufacturers make them, Hoppy, Uhaul, etc. The key is to use a plug that has its own battery connection.

Here is information on How I did the MINI. Ignore the MINI specific color codes and read the information below the table.

Eagerly awaitng my Smart."

found a solution

Howdy all

I finally broke down and bought the "smart wiring harness" ($70)
from
Smart Car Parts and Accessories » Smart Car Universe .com

It came with excellent, easy to follow instructions.

If you are looking to hook up trailer wiring to your smart, check out the site.
