Friends,
Today we had our second KC Smart Cart Club meeting. It was a hoot!
We had 17 attendees. This broke down into 10 Smart car owners, assorted spouses (not that they're not owners, too!), children and "orderees." I'm happy to report the chemistry was very good, a lot was discussed and actually agreed upon and the food wasn't bad, either!
We agreed that we want monthly meetings, with a variety of activities. Some ideas kicked around include "cruises" (an ironic name, they oughta be called "parks"), drives, scavenger hunts, rallies, information sessions, day trips, parades, taking hot laps at either Kansas Speedway or Heartland Park, connecting with other car clubs and playing in THEIR sandbox (defensive driving schools, etc.) and last but not least, taking meals together! In fact, Alphonso and Lula offered to feed us all if we'll just drive to Emporia!
Relax, I'm just kidding!
The ideas were good and fresh and the "vibe" was very friendly.
After we spoke and ate and spoke and took pics (see Bill and Sharon's EXCELLENT pics at Fun42's gallery!), we took a drive!
Not sure what to call it. It wasn't really a 'parade' per se, but WHATEVER it was, it was FUN! We followed Ruth from Rosedale's down to the Plaza, where we innocently put on a heckuva show! Drove around a bit, gradually losing participants as they peeled off to head for home, but not before wowing the Plaza shoppers, walkers and stalkers! I waved at people and without exception, they waved back! And everyone smiled at us!
It was GREAT fun!
Our next adventure will be to meet at Aristocrat on Saturday, July 26, at 1 PM. We will do more of what we did today, but hopefully with a LOT of new faces! Joe Lasker has graciously offered to send ALL the Smart owners and orderees in our neck of the galaxy an invite. Plan to attend!
As we get closer, I expect emails reminders will go out. Duh! At least you'll get one from Aristocrat!
Many thanks to all who attended. Several "homework" assignments were informally given (I'll get us into the Star's "Fun on Wheels," etc). If you have the time and are willing to, please take the initiative and do SOMETHING to advance our cause! Design a card for Joe, Amanda and Melinda to give to new owners. Get us booked on the Walt Bodine show. Find another cool place for us to go. Make name tags shaped like Smarts! (These would sell like candy to other club!) Make CAR name tags for when we're all together and driving or parked. Explore setting up a website. Design a logo for our club. Get us invited to (anywhere) where they'll treat us well in exchange for our presence. Use your imagination and come up with your own idea!
