November / December Activities

Fellow Smartians,

It's already November and it's time we brainstormed a suitable activity or three.

My first choice would be for us to participate in a parade of some sort. Post election? Thanksgiving? My birthday? Winter solstice? Christmas? Some other significant date?

What do you say?

Terry

Well I ordered a couple t-shirts from ALSRAC and I told them that I would come down and pick them up when they are ready. We can maybe make it a group thing that is of course if ALSRAC approves of this. We could go to there ZOO (if it is still open) but we might want to be leery they may want to keep Terry . We could also go visit the Bird bridge (I know more of a Halloween thing but it is one of the things that Emporia has). Just a thought and I am sorry to ALSRAC if I am imposing.

We'd love to have you guys here in town and be your host this time.
Our zoo in one of the smallest in America, it had probably 10 animals and this past summer 4 of them were killed
I don't know that Bird Bridge but we can think in something to do.
Maybe if we have the reunion in Emporia the lost Smart (the other one in town) we'll join us.
If you like let's set a date so we can get that day off. Lula has to ask the day off with 2 weeks in advance.
We can celebrate Terry's birthday, Lula's baby shower, and any other significant date

I have no qualms about staying at the zoo. I've been on display and studied many times before, and as long as it doesn't violate the terms of my parole, I'm in!

But I keep thinking there MUST be a Turkey Day parade in KC. Google doesn't find it, so maybe not. Karen and I like to go to the Plaza Lighting ceremony, but I doubt they will let us drive around...

So I'm still baffled. Going to visit Alphonso and Lula is a nice idea but what an imposition! I mean, I like all you guys but I'm not inviting you to MY house! I looked and looked at various sites telling about KC's parades, and the next one I see is in March (Snake Saturday). I'll keep looking, but methinks a parade is too far off. We need something to do together SOONER!

Keep thinkin'!

Terry

We don't feel like it is an imposition and by the way the invitation was to come to Emporia not OUR house . When we go to KC we go to KC not to somebody's house .
Anyway let's keep thinking.

By the way all of you are welcome to come to our house, the doors will be always wide open.
All of you guys are our Smart Family!!
If there is not a turkey parade in KC you can come here, make own very own Smart parade, go to eat and have a good time together.

First let me say I am sorry to all. I did not mean to start anything. I was not meaning to barge into ALSRAC's home. I was was merely suggesting that we meet in Emporia for lunch and or what ever. The fear of imposing that I felt was that I would be putting ALSRAC on the spot for showing us around or hosting us in there home town. I did not mean for them to host us at there home. I thought that I would offer for myself to travel down there as a courtesy to them for designing and having shirts made for us and thought that others may want to join me in the trek and make a meet out of it. I was not trying to invite myself or everyone else into there home. If no one is interested in traveling with me when the shirts are ready but you would like me to pick your shirt(s) up PM me and we will have to figure out a way to complete the transaction.

November, Terry I do not know where I would start to look into finding local parades but I was thinking that some cities may have a parade independent to Kansas City as a whole. Cities like Liberty, Overland Park, or Grandview. They may have a local parade that is generally not published as a Kansas City parade. Just a thought.

December, Terry S had a great idea for a Christmas photo opp. and I would very much like to proceed with that idea. Terry have you any leads to the missing pieces or props for this photo shoot? I was thinking that we could do it on the plaza after the lights have been turned on. PM me or Terry S if you would like more information on this small club project. Well that is about all I have for now but if anyone else has any ideas feel free to speak up.

Oh one more thing we may want to get registered for the St. Pat's day parade. I am not sure if it has a limit to entries but it's worth a look...

Keep the shiny side up,
Andy "Sr Swatch"

Andy, you don't need to apologize, we actually liked the idea of this time staying home and you guys do the driving , specially because Lula is so close to the due date, we don't want the baby to be born in the highway or KC, that almost happened to us with our daughter, we couldn't make it back to Emporia and she was born in Topeka.
Anyway, as Lula said our house is and always be open to all of you whenever you want to come, if not this november meeting, perhaps the next so everybody can meet the new baby. When I said the invitation was to come to Emporia and not our house I was just following Terry's joke.
So with everything clear now, let's keep thinking in this activity, at least set a date so we can get the day off.
I'll let you know guys when the shirts are ready and we can figure out something.

Perhaps we all just drive down to Emporia for lunch (must be some fun restaurants in town), work on a plan for a Christmas or post-Christmas gathering, and pick up the shirts from Alfonso and Lulu. I think we need to keep Lulu close to home until the blessed event. Heaven knows they driven their share to KC to join us.

Just my two cents...
