A GAGGLE ofSMARTIES

We will depart for the Indianapolis Motors Speedway from smart center Indianapolis. You must be physically present, at SCI, to participate in this HISTORIC event. Your 'smart car' will be numbered according to your arrival time at the center, that number will appear on your car.

We must pay our entry fee of $7.00 per person and will proceed to the track for our ONE LAP around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

~TRACK RULES to be followed~
We will follow the designated 'smart PACER'
to the race track (ROUTE WILL BE PROVIDED)
NO ONE is allowed to travel faster than
25 MPH on the TRACK!
We will stay in a SINGLE line formation as we 'BUZZ' once around the track - you must remain in your 'smart' while on the track, NO STOPPING for photos. You may be escorted OFF of the property if these rules are NOT followed... remember, it's about

SAFETY ~ SAFETY ~ SAFETY

Upon conclusion, we will be directed to the infield for parking; please, remain together so that we may form rows of smart cars for our
TAIL GATE party.

There will be SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS, FREE GIVE-A-WAYS and photo opportunities. Then LET's EAT!

The ENTRANCE FEE will allow you to visit the following:
A. The SPEEDWAY MUSEUM
B. The PIT CREW AREA
C. RL "Car Hauler"

I wonder who just may stop by for a photo shoot?

Yes, we're all looking forward to it. Can't wait to see the sight of 100 smarts crossing the start/finish line!!It's unfortunate that this is on a weekday, but during the "Month of May", the weekends are pretty well tied up with qualifications and such. "Community Day" is the ONLY day of the year that you are allowed to take your personal vehicle and make a lap of the track. For anyone who is a racing fan (and even for those who are not) that hasn't been to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, you have to see it at least ONCE in your lifetime. When you enter the gates, you just get the feel of the history of the place and in my case, even after growing up in Central Indiana, it still gives me goosebumps!

We have a KC-Indy connection as my wife is from KC. After talking to one of your members about an upcoming trip we're taking to KC, he asked me to post this here just in case someone in the KC area is interested in coming here. You're more than welcome, please just RSVP to Walter at SCI so that he can keep count of everyone in attendance.

That looks great indeed, however I didn't like 3 things:
1. Is too far at least for us (having to drive 2 cars with 3 kids)
2. Is in the middle of the week.
3. Having to drive at 25mph around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!!! I mean we drive Smarts!!! Not Kandi CoCos!! (I'm pretty sure there is a reason behind that speed limit)

Thanks for the invitation anyway I think that will be a wonderful experience to those who will be able attend.

Yep, there's a reason for the 25 MPH Speed Limit. Apparently a few years back, one of the 'other' car clubs participated and while on the track, preceded to do BURN OUTS on the front straight.

Needless to say, the 500 Festival Committee that oversees this event was not too thrilled. For obvious reasons, they have to think 'Safety First' so they mandated a speed limit. If you exceed the limit, you will be escorted from the track.....PERIOD!

It is really neat to drive, especially slow, around the track.....thinking of all the history as you go through each turn....Emmo's diving pass on Lil Al, putting Al Jr into the wall, Kevin Cogan's "right turn Clyde" at the start, taking out A.J, the firey crash that claimed the lives of Eddie Sachs and Dave McDonald in 1964 and of course the duel for several laps ending in a 'photo finish' of Al Unser Jr and Scott Goodyear.

Even after growing up here in the area, each time I enter the Speedway grounds, I still get goosebumps........reminding myself, THIS IS INDY!

I hope that those of you who CAN make it, do so. It will be a great event and a fun time. Yes, KC is a bit far and if you have to take more than one other person, probably not practical. But if you're a race fan or even just a history buff, I highly recommend either attending out event OR simply making the trip sometime, viewing the track and taking a tour of the 500 Museum. You WON'T be disappointed!

When you say photo opps.... do you mean that we will be able to get a picture of our car crossing the finish line or in front of the poll in the pits?

"SS" (Andy), 'you' can take pics yourself of your smart coming down the straight, passing by the scoring tower, but it may take a little advance planning.

First, when we enter the track, the first activity is to take our 'Lap of the Track'. We will be lead onto the track in the 'turn 4' area and then down the front straight. You will have to have someone already in the track when we arrive, as you more than likely won't have time to drop someone off when you get there and have them get to the start/finish line in time to take the pics.

smart center Indianapolis will have someone in place to take photos for us and of course we can do it ourselves. Just plan ahead.

...every time I've done it we come in at the south side short straight (between 2&3)next to the museum ...
