September Gathering....

OK, fellow smartians as Terry put it. I would like to open this up to any ideas any of us have for a gathering this month.

My idea is on the 20th that we meet up and drive down to Ottawa, KS. There is a very large car show that will be going on that weekend and although we will not be able to attend, because our cars are to new, we can still steal some of the spotlight. I figure that we could find a place to eat and gather right on main street and that should get us plenty of exposure. There are antique and craft stores that you can visit while we are there as well.

I would also like to use this meeting as a chance to talk about what we would like to do for October. Also I would like to finalize the banner/name issue because it would be nice to have a banner with our cars in October ;). Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Hi Andy, I like that, and we have plenty of time to try to get that saturday off.
On the club name probably we could vote for some "candidates" and the name with more votes will be the winner, what do you think?

You are right Andy, but I have a little trick that helps with that, you'll see when I post the pictures. Also the other Smart owner in town is taking his car to the show, we'll steal the show.

I would like to drive down there. Just went though there 2 week ago. Took
Smart T Pants, to Ok. Name the time for sure.

I am sure that everyone that wants to go will probably want to meet me there. I usually get there between 9am and 10am. I go down and hit the antique stores before I cruise over to the park for the show. I make this an all day event so we can meet up on main street any time before 5pm. That is about the time that they shut main street down to regular traffic for the show cars to line up, drag, and park along main street (Yes, Terry this is a real car cruise not a "car park" ).

I think that we could probably meet around 11:30 to 12:00 for lunch and discussion. If anyone wants to meet me in KC and drive down with me early, PM me and let me know when and where you would like to meet. If you are positive that you are going to join me later in the day PM me and I will give you my cell number so that we can make sure that we get together. For those of you who joined me in Belton then you have an idea of what they will be doing after 5pm, except multiply what you saw in Belton by at least ten to fifteen .

I am not sure of all the local sit down places to eat on main street although I know there are a few so I will leave that up to those of you who may be more familiar to choose. I usually eat rather informally when I go, so anyone that has a regular place that they have eaten at throw it out there.

Once again I make this an all day event and I am sure that all of you will not want to stay that long. All I ask is that we are together long enough to draw some attention away from the show. I hope that you all consider joining me and trust me you will definitely have a good time.

Greetings, Earthlings!

I am back from vacation and ready to rock the world of Smart Cars!

The Ottawhat? car show sounds like fun! I like Andy's idea of 'borrowing' some attention from the main event. Right this minute, my schedule is unclear, so I am a tentative / probable YES for at least part of the day. I want to chat about October, too... Amanda and Joe mentioned having some sort of Halloween event at Aristocrat, like maybe a Smartcar Masquerade or costume contest. I'll contact them and will present what I learn.

Here is another random thought: This Sunday is Bikers for babies at the Kansas Speedway. It is a gigantic bike rally and ride for the march of Dimes. While strictly speaking, it is a BIKE ride, we would be more than welcome to make a showing and make a donation. It costs $35 to register and that gets you admission to the vendor's Midway, a free lunch and other swag (a shirt, other stuff). There isn't much time, but wouldn't it be great to make a donation on the part of the Mo-Kan Smartcar Club?! I would like to do it in the name of the CLUB and not us as individuals (altho that is just my opinion, ymmv). The problem is TIME! If there were another week, I'd say send (someone, Aristocrat, me, Anita, whomever) your donation check made out to Bikers for babies, and we'll present it Sunday. Sadly, there isn't time. But what does anyone think about this maybe for next year? What if we can either follow for the ride or at least take a lap of the speedway? The KC ride is the largest in the US. We are small in numbers NOW but a year from now we might be a force to reckon with.

Sorry for the sidetrack! Now, back to the September meeting! A local Northland paper approached me with the idea for a story about the MO-Kan Smart Car Club. They want pictures of lots of us. Doesn't matter where. I will contact them with info about the Ottawa meeting, in case they want to make the trip.

Till then, kindly contact any owners you know who are not on this forum and invite them! I wish we had everyone who was at the July meeting on this forum. Anita, get right on that, OK?!
