Bikers for Babies FLASH! You have less than 2 days to respond to this!

MO-KAN Smart Friends,

I mentioned this last night... Sunday is the 14th annual Bikers for babies ride / fundraiser for the march of Dimes. These folks are raising money to help prevent birth defects, eliminate SIDS, and improve pregnancy counseling.

In the name of the MO-KAN Smartcar Club, I intend to make a donation. I'm going to kick in a meager $35. But I would be willing to donate more if anyone from our club or area wanted to 'pledge.' My only request is that you pay me back no later than our next meeting, September 20th in Ottawa.

I will take you at your word, if you say "I will donate $20," I will give them a check for my 35 plus your 20. My hope is that NEXT year we can be a sizable contingent, and maybe we will get a chance to borrow a bit of the spotlight. I am confident we can get on the radio, and perhaps the TV with our Good Deed.

The cause is a no-brainer. Who better to help than babies?! KC has the largest rally in the country. Last year they raised about 3/4 of a million dollars! But the need is enormous. Our help will be valuable.

If this resonates with you, PM me and make a pledge. I regret the short notice but it can't be helped. I will make the donation SATURDAY at a pre-registration event in Gladstone, so you must contact me right away.

Thanks! Operators are standing (sitting) by!

Terry
PS I hope I haven't just broken any rules by posting this...

Bikers for Babies

MO-KAN Smartians,

Today, I did in fact make a donation of $55 to the March of Dimes in the name of the MO-KAN Smartcar Club. Raised a few eyebrows, I'm sure. But we're on the map. Maybe it's just me (well, and Alsrac), but this may be a great activity for us to pursue next year: collecting money at our events and activities, to be donated at the BFB rally. If you contribute $1,000, you get to take a lap of the Kansas Speedway. I don't know the details but I will soon enough.

Anyway, just wanted to say Thanks to Alsrac for pledging and to tell everyone that this was done.

Terry

OK, here is an activity that you may want to do before and after meeting me in Ottawa this Saturday the 20th.

I thought that you guys could do a little cruise before and after the meeting in Ottawa. I was thinking that you could meet up somewhere in south Johnson County (119th and I-35) then start on down I-35 south getting off at 169 hwy south to Paola (map of 119th and I-35 to Paola KS). In Paola you would go to the square (circling it a few times ) then back out to hwy 68 to Ottawa and meet up with me for lunch (map of Paola KS to Ottawa KS). After lunch cruise up and down main street then by the park where I will leave you to attend the car show. Then to hwy 59 (main street Ottawa) to Lawrence (map of Ottawa KS to Lawrence KS). From Lawrence down 10 hwy to I-435 and I-35 with people break off to go home or whatever. Let me know what you think. I have not heard from any of you that want to meet up with me when I head down so those of you that are coming down and want to participate in the cruise will have to figure a time and place to meet. Because I will not be taking part in the cruise outside of Ottawa you may change it up to suite you own schedules.

Also I have not heard from any one that frequents Ottawa about a great place to eat for lunch. I will check into it later today, but please if there are any suggestions feel free to submit an entry.

Talk to you later,
Andy "Sr Swatch"

Ha ha ha!

I clicked the link and started searching for a good place to eat... The 24th 'restaurant' is MCFADDEN'S PORT-A-POT RENTALS! Thanks Andy! I needed a good laugh!

OK Fellow Smartians, let's work this out.
I will be attending, taking pictures and enjoying whomever shows up. I am not 100% sure about the timing of events, but here's my take on it:

First, we either meet up and wagon train to Ottawa, or we set a time and place to meet in Ottawa.

When we arrive, we should meet and discuss October activities (I think we've got a good one!). We should also eat! I vote for the Sirloin Stockade, simply because they used to have a great salad bar! I know that's not a great reason, I'm just sayin'... Also, they will probably be able to handle our group without problem. I HOPE WE HAVE A GROUP!!

The car show will be underway while we eat. After we eat and meet, we can drive around and be Smart!

The show-cars line up around 5. At that time, we can either park and walk around and see the sights, or we can leave.

If this is correct, then I suggest we meet in Ottawa at Noon. And if we want to wagon train down from KC, Andy suggested a good jumping-off point: 119th and I-35. Someone needs to suggest a meeting place there, as it is not in my neighborhood. If we met there at, say 10:30, we could probably be on the road before 11 and could be in Ottawa by Noon.

So who's in?

Think fast: this happens THIS Saturday.

Get excited!
Terry

For those of you that would like to see what all the fuss is about this is a link to the clubs website that will be hosting the show. http://http://www.olmarais.com/home.htm

Sorry, if there was any confusion and I second Terry S idea of were to eat. I will call them tomorrow to make sure space is not going to be a problem.

Thanks,
Andy "Sr Swatch"

OK all,

I called the Sirloin Stockade and they do not feel as though there will be a problem seating all of us. The only thing that he said was that because of the volume from the show it will be first come first serve. That just means if a group comes in that is larger then us then they get the priority. If we show up with ten of us then there should be no problem unless we get there after noon and then he could not guaranty anything. So with that said it would be a good idea to be in Ottawa by at least 11:30 and no later then noon.

I would like to thank those of you who replied to my PM's. Here is a list of confirmed members.

ALSRAC - pending
Terry S - EXCITED!!!
Tigerwong58
Cookenkeeper - will be running a little behind
Fun42
Fts1966 - pending
Ckiger - may be running behind
Smark

Sorry to those that said that they could not make it and I still have not heard from quite a few others. Remember owning a smart is not a requirement for attending.

Thanks again,
Andy "Sr Swatch"

FUN42 is still pending at this point. Depends on if I have to work on Saturday.

Hopefully we'll see you all there.
