Hi happy2cruise!
Regardless where you get your Smart, I bet you're going to love it!
I am a frequent visitor to Argonia (and Wellington and Anthony). Are you in that neighborhood? I drove Gromit down there a few weeks ago and it was like I got out of a spaceship!

People were wide-eyed and a bit taken aback. Had very few questions, mostly just stares (but no eye contact). Could it have been the aluminum foil on my head?
I have *heard* that my car was featured in Naked City, the lifestyle magazine in Wichita. Haven't seen it but next time I pass through I may be famous... Or maybe my CAR will be.
One last thought: you mentioned the "port charges." By that I assume you mean the Destination Charge. If I'm not mistaken, that is a uniform fee ($645?) which spreads the cost of shipping our cars from France to any given US location equally. I encourage you to get the dealer to explain what he/she means by 'port charge.' On my Monroni (window) sticker, there was no mention of a Port Charge. You DON'T want any surprises when it's time to get your car! Now, Aristocrat (aka Merriam) charges a Documentation Fee, which is just their policy. It is $399. I looked into picking MY car up in Tulsa (and Nebraska) and after doing the math, I found I would be money ahead buying from Aristocrat. Obviously, your circumstance is different. You may notice an underlying sense of "We love Aristocrat!" from some of the others... That's because we DO! But we don't really care where you get your Smart: we're just surprised that your experience wasn't more like ours. I've bought a car or two, and my experience at Aristocrat was by FAR the most pleasant buying experience I've ever had. But your mileage may vary...
