according to the cargo tracking the car should get to baltimore on saturday, i figure that means i can pick it up late next week. I'll definately let you know all the details, I expect things to go smooth, the people at the dealership have been great so far. I've been really impressed that they remember me by name every time I come in, and usually they even recognize my voice and know who I am when I call.

I actually stopped by there today because I was in the area. They were getting some cars ready for delivery, and apparently one customer asked them to put the mercedes emblem on it instead of the smart (front and back). Looks kind of cool, but I wouldn't spend extra money on it even if it was something I wanted. Interesting to know that they can/will do something like that though.

I'm another Smithtown reservation. But I got an orphan Bumblebee and couldn't be happier! When I went into the dealership on a Tues. night to see if they had any estimates (did my confirmation end of January), Craig (?) told me about the orphan list and I signed right up. The *very next day* they called and said they had a possible orphan for me! We went in that night and took it
Orphan: Bumblebee with red interior, CD changer, power steering and heated seats Wohoo!

Original order (which I haven't cancelled) Bumblebee with Comfort package, fog lights and alarm.

My only requirements for the orphan list was that it *had* to be a bumblebee, have heated seats, and not the tachometer/clock bubbles.

Overall dealership experience was great, they didn't try overly hard to sell extras. Did try to sell me an extended warranty that is NOT the same one people are talking about here, it was much more expensive. I did my research and will get one from Warranty Direct instead. I love my little Smart, and you'll see me coming!

Very Interesting........

I turned down that very orphan. I must say that smart center Smithtown have handled their orphan list extremely well. They telephoned me about that car because it had the same colour scheme as the car I had reserved (yellow/black/red). It was a great temptation, but since I had configured my car very shortly after being placed on the orphan list, I had to decline. I consider configuration a contract.

In addition, the options, apart from heated seats, were different than in my configuration; and most importantly, I intensely dislike power steering, especially in small cars.

But it is fascinating to learn what became of my “almost” smart. I happened to be driving by the dealership later that evening (a Thursday two weeks ago), and saw plenty of splendid smarts, including the yellow/black/red one. They must have received a shipment of good size.

A week later, I happened to be driving by again, and all of those cars were, unsurprisingly, gone. I knew that any orphans amongst them would be snapped up in a flash!

LOL, they offered us that same orphan as well, we had been on the orphan list since the first week the dealership opened in the beginning of january. We said we would take it and they said they would call us back in a few hours when everything was all set. They never called back and when my wife called the next morning they told her that we had allready been in and set everything up. we didn't understand what they were talking about and eventually we realized they had called the wrong heather(my wife is also heather). Well good thing it worked out that way because our car should be in this week, and if we had known it was going to be in so soon we wouldn't have taken the orphan anyway. We had missed our 30 day letter and had no idea ours was about to come in. So your name got you your car, and saved us from missing out on the smart we really wanted.

I just got a phone call earlier in the week from Smithtown Smart. They told me my car was built on March 8th. Should be here sometime in April.

My res#1237.

Got my smart today!! Drove past the dealership and saw the truck unloading smarts around 2pm, I ran in to see if mine was there and it was. I told them I wanted to try and take it tonight if possible, they gave me some paperwork to bring back and I left. when I got back to the dealership about an houe and a half later my car was prepped and detailed waiting in the showroom! I got coverage through Geico on my own, financed through them. They tried to sell some extras, but weren't pushy at all, more just showin off all the cool stuff. I did extend the warranty, I got a better rate for extending it through the loan, so it barely changed my payments. I didn't take the first warranty package that I was offered though. All in all the experience was stellar. I couldn't belive how hard they worked to get it out that day for me. Oh yeah, and most important, I LOVE THE CAR.

Congrats! I am glad you finally got your car, and that they are making progress at Smithtown. Couple questions for you:

Who did you deal with at Smithtown?
You say you didn't take the first warranty you were offered. Can you explain?

Oh man...everyday that passes I get more and more excited to get this car.

Oh, and I definitely agree that a local smart club might need to happen once a few more locals actually have the car

We kind of dealt with everyone there, the staff is great everyone had a hand in the delivery. As far as the warranty first we were offered a 7 year 75K mi warranty for $2K (I'm not exactly sure of those stats but thats ballpark what it was) I didn't think trhat was a great deal, but then They offered a 5Year 60K mi for $1300. Thats the one I took.
