I grew up in Upstate NY, So of Syracuse and know what you mean about locals there being tight-lipped. But here in TN we get asked so many questions, photos taken and people waving, looking out of cars, pointing, motor cyclists waving and smiling that my wife doesn' want to ride anymore.....but I win, she does.

FYI there are about 3400 counties in the U.S. If Penske has sold less than that theree are fewer than one per county, that's why you don't see many yet, it's pure country size vs. import distribution. I have been by a few smart dealers and see at least 3-5 on there lots so that means there may be even less actually registered. In my county there is only one that I know of and I haven't seen them since I was at my local dealer when they picked theirs up - but others have said that they have seen the "blue smart convertible" in town. Give it some time, this is something quite new and doesn't have much in the way of dealer networking.

The guys at the Buffalo dealership (who are supplying as far away as PA and Ohio too) said they're only due to get like 300 this year. Far and away, they said, their biggest market is Rochester. It's surprising Rochester didn't try to get a dealership, but then I guess Penske liked the distribution better with Albany and Buffalo. Makes sense for cities like Syracuse and Rochester.

When I drove out of the dealership with mine, the guy said "Sorry I can't say you're the first in Rochester to have one." I told him "I'm not even the first at my job!"

I do not get much attention from others when I drive my Smart Fortwo Pure. I do not mind since it can be annoying (gleaned from other posts). I did have a motorcycle follow me into my parking space at work and he asked about my little car. I have not had any take photos of my little car when on the road (at least not that I am aware of).
