This is a great deal, I will call you during this upcoming week. Does it contain instructions and all of the parts needed to mount it?

Hardware yes, instructions are not included in the box but I've made copies of them off a PDF we were issued. I'll talk with you later next week.

There has been some concern about the initial installation of the smart designed base rack so I thought I would post an explanation. The first time the base rack is installed, the rear CBS (Customized Bodypanel System) is removed. This is to install the hardware necessary between the bumper cover and the bumper bar itself. This design is to reinforce the bumper so it can endure the weight of the rack and up to two bicycles long term. It was explained to me that these tow points are engineered to withstand lateral pulling forces and not necessarily this type of weight bearing down vertically. If smart deemed a simple external screw in design sufficient, they would have done it. Over time the weight on these tow points could bend the bumper bar so a rack that doesn't have this reinforcement hardware might not sit as level a year from now as it does when it is first installed. Time will tell of course. These racks were also specifically designed for the USA. Once the hardware is installed, the rack will easily go on and off. It is the initial installation for the Genuine Base Rack that differs from the available aftermarket racks. I was told these racks were also impact tested because the high safety in a car this size is due to attention to the smaller details engineered into the design. So in a nutshell I'd say it's the smart way to go and this special price is comparable to aftermarket products anyway.

Hi,

I would like to carry my Segway on the back of my smart. Does anyone know if the basic rack can withstand the forces of a 105lb segway?

I don't remember what the weight limit is, but I would say yes. I am sure its no more than 150lbs. But you could sit on the base rack and it wouldn't budge.
