I agree with Fredvon4 on the bling assessment, as on the financial and practical conclusion. However, my concern is for the pedestrian's health and well being, not the driver's liability.
there are laws in the US and canada and europe etc. for automotive designs to better "accommodate" vehicle-pedestrian "collisions", and the 451 was redesigned in part to meet these more stringent regulations. the bumper area has been redesigned to reduce the injury to the lower leg area of the pedestrian. adding on a big steel bar is going to more than cancel out the gains achieved by the designers.
any desire for "cow catchers" on a personal transport vehicle is too self-indulgent for my tastes, and the interest in the preservation of the vehicle's appearance vis-a-vis parking stunts with other vehicles taking priority over the safety of pedestrians seems telling.
at least in urban / sub-urban / ex-urban areas, I don't feel that pedestrian health is something we can afford to ignore
