Make that box sealed, and connected to the intake air vent, and I might be interested.

We do installs at our shop and we also do custom smart cars. So anything from putting on a set of Pedal, Intakes, Springs, Exhausts, Body Kits to full custom cars.

We just finished a complete makeover of a smart for a large company (wheels, springs, exhaust, body kit, custom paint, interior) and we will have pics up shortly. If you are ever in the area call us. There is always a smart or two around looking a bit different than stock.

No one has approached us with an LED kit yet. Will let everyone know when there is one.

The cost of the install is $50.

It does connect to the intake air vent. The box will not be designed to completely seal. It gets more than enough air the way it is now. There are reasons on why one side of the intake shield is open. We are not the designers of this item, but the manufacturer tried a variety of different shields and this one works best.

Thank you...

The reason why one side of the shield is open is to take advantage of the K&N Filter. If you decide to make the system closed, you are in fact restricting the air, similar to the stock setup. If you study how the air travels with the stock setup, you will notice how inefficient the air flows. There are to many arterials to travel through before actually entering the engine. Our pipe design takes care of that, making the air flow more efficiently into the engine.

The design of the Heat Shield was to keep the cool air from the side air duct facing directly into the filter. The warm air is on the engine which is behind the heat shield. I have done multiple tests with different setups to confirm that the cool air does in fact cool down the Intake Air Temp significantly. This was done using a Scanguage II. From those who have used a Scanguage, know that what you read is what you get. This is more accurate than reading the pipe from the outside.

So with this setup, you take advantage of the K&N filter by making your engine take in air more efficiently, which results in more horsepower. Plus you get a nicer looking intake, rather than the stock plastic look.

And now the other shoe drops. Another vendor in hiding. I believe Ernie increased the factory intake's efficiency by giving us the 50 cent idea, it's not very pretty but it does a good job. What are the dyno numbers on your intake and at what temp?

The 50 cent mod is a neat idea but definitely not "car show" quality. The performance from such an idea has still not been proven on paper.

Our Dyno results shows an 8 horsepower increase at 5000 RPM's. That data is conservative. I say that because the vehicle was not moving and the outside temp was close to 100 degrees.

More than the majority of the people who have tried our intake system, noticed the difference right away. It has to do with air flow and the efficiency of it. Even with the 50 cent mod, the air flow going through the filter has too many turns. With our Intake, you won't be getting the same feeling as you would with a 300 HP engine but you will notice the quicker response and acceleration that is needed for the Smart.

Do I understand correctly that you are getting better than a 10% increase in HP just by using an aftermarket intake tube and filter?

Yes, and it has been proven twice. Once from our Dyno run that we did in nearly 100 deg weather, and the second time done by a distributor in Canada. This distributor spent a whole day doing a test with our intake. Below is his test result. His test was done with the original version. The original version had a longer pipe and did not get cold air from the side. Our current version has a shorter pipe, which results in less "losses" and gets the air to the engine quicker.
