You get a quicker response than a drop in filter, plus the cooler air gets to your engine faster.

The throttle body opening is a 1 3/4". The intake pipe is a 2" opening. We use a silicone reducer to transition this connection.

Just installed CAI from Smart Madness.

Just installed the SmartMadness Cold Air Intake. Got to say, it was harder than I thought, the stock unit is really in there!!!. 4 bolts, clamps, and it was still a 60 minute job. But it's all done, I'll drive it around in a few days when i have off from work. Looks real nice.

After I drive it around for a week, I'll decide whether to sell the stock system. Only has 3K miles on it and filter is super clean.

Any updates?

After reading several threads about cold air intakes on this forum, I Googled around a bit, and ran across this kinda scary post.
After market air intake WARNING
Was his a case of improper installation?

...seems to me that they handed him the bill without Vaseline..
...the dirty intake is not a big issue, it can be cleaned up with some carb/electronic cleaner..
..any after market install, even plug and play, merits constant monitoring until you're satisfied that's not going anywhere after "your" installation and to make sure the manufacturer did his job too...

I was happy with the intake and I figure I still am. I started getting rattles from the metal shroud hitting a metal point near it in the engine compartment. I adjusted it and it went away for almost a day and then returned. I called Smartmadness and spoke with them about it, and they mentioned they had not heard of this before. I installed it just as i read the instructions. But then again I was supposed to take a few pictures of the install at the point where it's hitting and send those to them, but have been busy and not gotten to it yet, But this weekend ( tomorrow) is set aside for that trouble shooting and getting those pictures to them, I'm sure it will be resolved fine. I do like the throatty sound.
As for the problem that happened in the above mentioned link with the bracket breaking and allowing alot of unfiltered air into the throttle body, that's 1 part manufacturer, one part not using the vibration isolator included with the model, and the last part Owner not inspecting his/her engine compartment. Doesn't anyone check their oil every few fill ups anymore? At that point, you'd do a quick visual inspection of the engine bay.
I'm not that old, but my love of old cars has taught me to check the fluids and engine bay every few fill ups no matter what car i have. Alot of folks are used to buying the car and taking it in to the shop when the little light tells you too. Let's be proactive and not expect our cars to go go go till the 10,000 mile check engine light turns on.

It is not the same intake and not the same design. We have not had any intakes that have broken. The first shield that was designed came loose a couple of times (nothing serious, just a bit of noise) and the problem was caused by a weak clamp. The clamp was quickly upgraded by the manufacturer along with replacements sent out to anyone that had an issue (less than a handful). Since then the intakes have been great.

The intake that is mentioned in this link is a completely different design and is one that we do not offer.
