I'm putting my Ike up for adoption to a good family.

Well, when i bought my smart, i was concerned about my finances, but I simply couldn't pass it up, and bought it. I couldn't be happier with my car! However, things have been tight ever since... Well, my family has an old Dodge with low miles on it and if all goes well, i'm going to take it. (I WILL own another smart when things turn around for me...)

That means, i've gotta find a new owner for Ike. It pains me to even say it. I've loved this car so much. but, here's a description, in case anyone around these parts is interested in saving time from ordering, and wants to save a couple grand...

I owe $14450 or so, and would like to break even at least. I'm not looking to make money on it, as i've gotten much enjoyment out of the car. But with the way my bank account currently is, i can't afford to lose any, either.

It's a passion coupe.. .blue/silver/black leather with the comfort package, gauges, fog lights, upgraded sound system, and alarm. retail was $16300 or something like that. I also added a scangauge. Yes, i waited a year... and now i've driven it for a year. It's carried me to Denver and back... to Ely and back.. to work and back over and over... he's got 17300 miles on him now.

I did not opt for the extended warranty, as i used to work in car sales, and know that those are just a major profit center for the dealer, and a very low percentage of people actually gain from them. However, you can still get an extended warranty on it up until 23999 miles if it's important to you (i wouldn't).

I never had any of the initial trouble with mine that some people reported. I still need to do the service 2.0 to it (tranny reprogram to bring it up to '09, was planning to do this at the next oil change).

I had my first oil change at 1500 miles, another at 9800, and was planning on another here soon as i was planning on taking it to Tennessee for a camping trip. but, now i'll save the miles and take the Dodge (i think i just threw up a little in my mouth).

I have kept every fuel receipt and have logged most of them. i'll finish logging them so you can see my fuel economy throughout its life. the worst i got on a full tank was 34 and the best was 43. i have gotten over 50 a couple times on trips to a friends house or in the hills in Denver.

I've got lots of photos, and im always up for meeting someone somewhere if they want to see it.

Here's one of the first photos i took of Ike and me.

Let me know if you have any questions You can email me at smartfortwo2008@aol.com. I'd also be happy to send more photos if interested.

Thanks everyone! Please help me make this as painless an experience as possible. I'll feel so much better if i can find someone who is looking for this exact car and can save them a few bucks.

Steve.

Sorry Steve you have to give up little IKE. You owe more to the bank on it, then its worth retail. I was curious, because I have the clone of your car. Goodluck in finding a new home for her.
$11.927 trade in
$12,903 private party
$13,784 dealer retail

Edmunds used smart fortwo car appraisal. Used smart car pricing.

Sorry Minnysmart to hear about your situation. You picked up yours just about the same time we picked up ours. I hope things get better for you and that someday you'll pick up another one.

Good luck with the adoption...

THanks Beagle. It's heart breaking. as much as i need the financial breathing room, i look at all the pictures of the car and can't imagine not having my little Ike. what a decision. If i could find enough other areas to cut back on, i'd do that instead to get my through, but...gotta do it if i can.

Thanks for the well wishes!

By the way, KBB says it's worth about $15K and Edmunds says $13k, so hopefully $14K will work? we'll see...

I'm going to go take him for a drive right now in fact. get him a new wash and everything...

We got our initial order for a white/silver cabrio in a few months ago. When we went in, Jason said he would only offer around $11k for ours. That's with a $500 upgrade in a new stereo system and a separate set of snow tires with new wheels. To me, that wasn't enough of a trade in so we decided to bypass our order and kept our old one. In this economy, it's hard to by a new car because it's 'cooler'.

Sorry to hear that Minnysmart! That is too bad. I enjoyed seeing you around EP all of the time with the clone of mine. I hope all else is well for you and I will see you around.

Are you going to keep the Scangauge II? Otherwise how much are you willing to sell it for?

Hey Jeff! I'm planning on leaving it with the car as a selling point. if they don't want it, i'll probably put it in my next car. if it doesn't work in that (might be too old) then i'd sell it to you. what would be fair do you think? I paid $150 i think... i have no idea what would be a fair used price... half that? Tell ya what... you find me a buyer for my car and you can have it!
