"T'was a good night last night..."

Hey, congrats Steve! Looks...super! :

Just like mine from the front anyway...(I've got the same setup in the cabrio, of course). It even looks like you ordered all the 'goodies' like mine - pods, fogs, leather, etc.

It looks as if the smart center Bloomington folks did it up good once again.

Now for that meet and greet...watch for news soon.

Thanks Fred! Sorry I don't look that enthused in the photo... I was exhausted by that point... But I was so happy... it's been an incredible first few days...

Looks like those of us who have our smarts about us will get to test out the traction control and esp this week! wide open predictions, but anywhere from 4 to 14 inches of snow (depending on how much of it falls as rain) are coming!! Should be fun!!!

Hi Kevin!

What to say, man... this car is everything I hoped for, but so much more. It handles so well. Is very comfortable, quieter than I had imagined, and all the luxury features make me feel like a king! (I got all the options possible).

Here's the biggest thing I've noticed. When the car is wandering a bit due to either wind or ruts or whatever, the initial reflex it to correct the direction through the steering wheel... However, if you do that you'll just over-correct back and forth and it gets irritating. However, if you relax a little, and have a "lighter" grip on the wheel... try to really give the car a second or two to correct it's own direction... it drives SOOOO much better. My first drive home was a little twitchy... the next day I drove it around town running errands, almost entirely on freeways. I remembered someone on this forum saying to try not to corrective steer as much as you instictively want to, and tried it... works great!

It feels much more solid over bumps/expansion joints, etc than I had hoped... It's a little more "rattle-y" than I had hoped, but not to the point that I'm surprised or bothered. The interior lights at night are really nice!

I didn't get the smart floor mats... And at first I was kind of regretting that. It's impossible to find generic floor mats that fit the smart.
Instead, I went to Target and bought 2 of these $3.99 plain black welcome mats, which were 18" wide by like 30" long or something... used a box knife to cut it down to 19" long... fits BEAUTIFULLY on the driver's side. The remainder of that one I used on the passenger side slanted part of the floor, then cut another one to fit the rest of the space on the passenger side (don't remember the dimensions). Doesn't look cheap at ALL (in fact, looks really nice I think). And, when they get dirty, I can replace them for $8 and 1 minute of cutting time! Works for me...

Ummmm.. the transmission to me is a non-issue. I love the transmission. I've honestly been driving it in auto mode the entire time so far. You're supposed to take it easy for the first 1000 miles anyway. And when you do, the tranny has the opportunity to do a great job. It still takes as long to shift, but the "delay" automatic lovers describe is far less noticeable at lower acceleration levels. Much smoother than I thought it would be. If you're used to a manual transmission, the "delay" isn't a problem at all.

I'm looking forward to trying it in the snow tomorrow and Friday!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I can't think of anything else as the Wild are about to drop the puck! Gotta go!

Hey MinnySmart. they have to ban your color style. The one I ordered is the same and Jennifer just delivered a blue Smart to a Medicine Lake nieghbor so we now have 1 Smart for every 40 adults AND, i'm waiting for our next Smart come July. My Smart, "BloodShot" now has over 2,000 miles and only gets better daily. As required by Smart law, you MUCH name your Smart. Now, enjoy your Rock Star status.

That blue sure does seem popular! And I LOVE it! I'm still waiting for my little blue bunny to name its self.... Ironically, I have family ties to LeMars, IA and the Blue Bunny ice cream factory (workers, not owners). So, LeMar/Lamar is in the lead at the moment, but I don't want to get tired explaining the name story. We'll see... ) I just can't wait to get my scangauge that I ordered today, and I can't want to get 1001 miles on it so I can drive it normally (even though I'll usually drive it pretty calmly anyway, but sometimes I want to punch it!).

See y'all at a meet-up soon!

How Hot is Smart?

Two days in a row. Mpls Police stopped me at a light, rolled down my window to "chat", what kind of car is that. Then the Henn Cty Sheriff ran my plates to find out what it was. Pulled in along side me at our city hall to "chat" Now, this rock star has Police protection. I ask you, can life get any better?

Best experience yet! Took the little guy to Costco today to get fuel and some goodies... we fit $190 worth of stuff in the back, with only a 25 lb bag of cat food needing to go in front under the legs of my co-pilot. What a hoot! Then we got fuel and the 92 octane was $3.28/gal... and I got 34 mpg on the first tank. Not great, but it's been windy as heck around here, and I haven't been trying to drive as gently as I could have...

But my scangaugeII came in the mail today, and I just installed it. Using it's assistance, it says I'm averaging 40.6 so far in some highway testing... we'll see how it holds up... I"ll have to adjust the settings over the next few tanks to fine tune it.

Can't wait to do a meet n' greet once it gets nicer out!

This car is really impressing me every day! The rain-sensing wipers is unreal! The parking ability is REALLY fun... last night, we went downtown Mpls and were able to back into a parallel spot (in a small parking lot, not on the street). Then we went to Village Wok by the U and I was able to share a meter with a Jeep Wrangler! I love this car...

Going to Bloomington to get my plates today... I went with the Loon plates instead of personalized ones to save a few bucks... maybe down the line I'll treat myself with some custom ones...

Starting to plan a trip with the Blue Oyster to Denver in late may! Can't wait!! Cheaper than flying...

Well, today I went to Lake Calhoun to skate around the lake... I love living here... And the best part, while other vehicles were driving endlessly looking for a place to park, I was able to park right away ad get on my way to enjoying the weather, views, people, fresh air, and exercise. I was able to find a great windshield shade... $8 at my local auto parts store... it is 27" tall by like 67" wide... it is too wide, but who cares... it's cheaper than a special one made for the smart, and works great! So, look for the "Jumbo" size (27" tall). It will be too wide, but that's ok.

Happy Spring!
