Hi Kevin!
What to say, man... this car is everything I hoped for, but so much more. It handles so well. Is very comfortable, quieter than I had imagined, and all the luxury features make me feel like a king! (I got all the options possible).
Here's the biggest thing I've noticed. When the car is wandering a bit due to either wind or ruts or whatever, the initial reflex it to correct the direction through the steering wheel... However, if you do that you'll just over-correct back and forth and it gets irritating. However, if you relax a little, and have a "lighter" grip on the wheel... try to really give the car a second or two to correct it's own direction... it drives SOOOO much better. My first drive home was a little twitchy... the next day I drove it around town running errands, almost entirely on freeways. I remembered someone on this forum saying to try not to corrective steer as much as you instictively want to, and tried it... works great!
It feels much more solid over bumps/expansion joints, etc than I had hoped... It's a little more "rattle-y" than I had hoped, but not to the point that I'm surprised or bothered. The interior lights at night are really nice!
I didn't get the smart floor mats... And at first I was kind of regretting that. It's impossible to find generic floor mats that fit the smart.
Instead, I went to Target and bought 2 of these $3.99 plain black welcome mats, which were 18" wide by like 30" long or something... used a box knife to cut it down to 19" long... fits BEAUTIFULLY on the driver's side. The remainder of that one I used on the passenger side slanted part of the floor, then cut another one to fit the rest of the space on the passenger side (don't remember the dimensions). Doesn't look cheap at ALL (in fact, looks really nice I think). And, when they get dirty, I can replace them for $8 and 1 minute of cutting time! Works for me...
Ummmm.. the transmission to me is a non-issue. I love the transmission. I've honestly been driving it in auto mode the entire time so far. You're supposed to take it easy for the first 1000 miles anyway. And when you do, the tranny has the opportunity to do a great job. It still takes as long to shift, but the "delay" automatic lovers describe is far less noticeable at lower acceleration levels. Much smoother than I thought it would be. If you're used to a manual transmission, the "delay" isn't a problem at all.
I'm looking forward to trying it in the snow tomorrow and Friday!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I can't think of anything else as the Wild are about to drop the puck! Gotta go!
