Mine is the one that smells like a burnt car... It was (and still is) Black\Black Pure with Black wheel covers. It looks fine from the outside.

Here is another strange thing, Mine originally came from Milwaukee.....I got it off Ebay from the owner who had 2 and lost his job so he sold the one with no miles on it (14 when I got it) How strange is that??? these two cars might be relatives...

UPDATE....5-30-09

They did manage to figure out where the "death howl " was coming from, and will do my best to relay the info to you - disclaimer, I am not a mechanic, nor would I ever claim that I know anything about an engine - I received a call on Wednesday from the Smart team in Bloomington. What they found was that this car had received some previous warranty work in its previous LBPAD (life before pro audio dude). In this warranty work, a piece was installed incorrectly (not at Smart Bloomington, but somewhere else in America). This piece essentially "shredded" to pieces and the twisted and melted shrapnel had made its way into my engine (this is where the technical details flew right over my head from the Smart guys but I continued to say uh huh and nodded my head like it all made sense, once I receive a report on the work being done, I will pass it along to all of you to for the gory details) thus causing the engine to "howl". The issue has been elevated to Germany for review. The last info I received was that the German HQ was reviewing how to address this issue with regards to the repair. It would seem that this could take some time to resolve and figure out how to move forward. I can only assume it is due to the complexity of the issue in that the damage to the engine could be so extreme that of a complete over-haul, rebuild, or even replacement be required. Again I will keep you posted on the progress. I must say, you were all very correct in praising the service team at Smart MN. They have been very helpful and informative thru the entire process. Never to single anyone out, but Joe over there should be be given some "props" from the boss for his customer service skills. He calls when he says he will, and follows up EVERY TIME. For that, I cant thank him enough! Hopefully they will get whatever green light they need from Germany to proceed with the repair and I will be back on the road soon. More to come soon....

Have a great weekend everyone

GOT MY SMART BACK!!!!!

I got a call from the smart center saying ITS DONE. Picked up the Smart on Friday and all I can say is WOW. It is running sooooo quiet now. I guess I did not realize how quiet it could/should be since I had some noise since I bought it last month. Smart Bloomington and Smart USA really stepped up on this one and took care of the problem. The issue was in the transmission (see previous posts for more info) and they did a complete replacement. They even took the time to drive it many miles before approving it to ensure it was 100%. I am very impressed with the Smart center Bloomington and how Smart USA handled this issue. Not only because they fixed it but they took the time to fix it right, test it, and test it again. That is impressive. When I picked it up on Friday, I noticed the pen I was signing the paperwork with said FELDMANN IMPORTS so I asked if they were related. I was told that Feldmann owns the Bloomington Smart center. I was happy to hear that as we have been going to Feldmann for years with the wifes ML and have always been impressed with their level of customer service and quality of work (oh and great coffee while you wait) and it is very clear that the Smart center in Bloomington follows this same level of professionalism and care for the work they perform. After having a first hand experience with Smart service and our local service center, I am even more pleased I bought a Smart. Thanks to Joe and crew for making my little machine go again.

Funny timing, last week I received the one month follow-up email from the CarMax dealer in WI asking how everything was going with the Smart. When I replied to the sales girl who sold me the car and explained everything that was going on with it, I got a phone call from the CarMax district manager about an hour later. All I could do was chuckle as he tried to explain that their 120 point inspection on used cars is usually very solid (which I am sure it is, this was kind of a unique issue). I explained to him that he needs to send a basket of candy to the Smart Center in Bloomington for taking care of business :-)

Ok now that I am back up mechanically, its time for some mods

Thinking about the following...
-HID headlights
-Armrest

Anyone done these mods yet (locally)? Any recommendations would be great. There are a few types of armrests I have found and many kinds of HID kits out there, so I am looking for the advice of the experts (ie ya'all)

Have a great weekend everyone.

Looks like smart Smart Center in Bloomington is becoming the premeir smart center, Or at least they seem to have been chalenged quite a bit by cars they didn't even sell and steped up.
Sounds like they now have a hotline to Germany.

Glad you got your Smart back!!

You obviously got the same treatment I got from the dealer. I thought it was interesting that 2 problem cars both came from Wisconsin, and Bloomington had to straighten them out. My guess is that they will become one of the top dealers in the nation as their service to the customer is waaaay above and beyond expectations. Maybe it's a Minnesota thing, I don't know. I am so glad they are my closest dealer. It would be worth the extra drive even if they weren't.

I would love to go but work is taking me away for that weekend (have to travel to LA). I hope to be at one of the local get gatherings soon.
