Still Smart

I was at a function earlier this week. An associate of mine was complaining about the price of gas, because the the new car he purchased, a Lexus that required Premium gas cost him $70 per fill up. He stated he was relieved to know that gas was coming down in price.

I informed that I was on a waiting list for a Smart Car. He replied, " I've seen those. They are Tiny. I informed him that they too require premium gas. But I estimated it would cost me, at the worst $40 a tank.

His reply, "Well gas is coming down." "Great even cheaper for me!", I replied.

As I open the the Star Tribune and read that they are predicting gas pricing to fall dramatically, I hope the "Smart Ones" out there remain solid and see practicality of owning a car that consumes less gas, albeit premium. To see the wisdom of adapting the less is more policy.

I am keeping my fingers crossed hoping that people will become swayed by the thought that gas pricing is coming down, and hey I don't need this quick fix any longer, and my position on the Smart Car waiting list moves up as swiftly as gas prices fall.

Then, the other part of me beckons me, resolved to the fact that you may not get your car til next year because demand is so high. Either way, I am resolved to know, I made the Smart choice.

I would have bought this car if gas cost less than a dollar per gallon. Matter of fact put in my order before the price went nuts. Yes it is tiny, It is the only street legal micro car I can buy in the US. Exactly what I wanted!

Gas prices may go down as the summer peak season ends but the trend has been up, with every drop in oil prices there was a even stronger surge in the up direction.
I think gas prices will be high in the long term.

In some ways its nice if less people buy Smarts..
Reason 1) they are less popular, so you become more popular by owning one
Reason 2) you get yours sooner as the waiting list decreases

Either the more or less people buy them.. they're still awesome!
