08 smart clutch plate replaced

Well at 25,000 miles I had to have my clutch plate replaced. Made the trip to Indy to have it done today. Boy what a difference it made! Seems to be tighter and shifts much smother. If that makes sense at all...

KUDOS to Walter, Joe, & Charlie for their outstanding customer service! These 3 guys are the best Sales people I have ever dealt with. They always are attentive and ready to make the customer happy! Great Job Guys!!!

Oh, I picked up a new shirt and Hat while I was there. They have some really neat embroidered things that they have had done! Really neat stuff!

what made you decide to have it done... what were the symptoms or did you take it in for one thing and they discovered the issue?

Well it originally started out with issues when shifting into reverse. I would have to move the shifter into park and back to reverse a time or two to get it into gear. Then the next issue was when I would come to a rolling stop then hit the gas pedal it would bog out and hesitate really bad. Then it started to slip upon acceleration.

I asked once if smart would cover the cost and was not excited with the answer. Then when it started slipping a couple months later I asked again and rec'd a much better response.

in the past few weeks i have been having more frequent issues with getting it into gear. I wonder at 21,000miles will smart take care of it? also how long did they take to work on it?

Answer to question 1 is yes. If the dealer tries to say no, gently remind them that smartUSA has already replaced the clutch plates on two cars with over 70k miles on them... If they still balk call Michigan.

The answer to question 2 is about 2 to 3 hours if they have the part and the technician knows what they are doing.

They better have covered it... I had over 70k miles and smartUSA covered mine... And Uni had move miles than I did when they covered his... It's a widely known issue...

I dropped mine off at 7:30am and left the dealership by 3:30pm. That also included a wash and vacuum.
