check your tire pressure

Chief, Big Panda, and all who have recently got their new smart, be sure and check the tire pressure. My tire pressure light came on the other day, the temperature had been up and down (below zero). They all looked ok, so I just hit the button and the light went off. I had her in the garage today for a bath, and while she was on the lift I had the time to wash her undercarriage too. When I lowered her down I decided to check all the tires, I believe the door sticker says 29 front and 36 rear. The front was 36.5 and 36.0, the rear was 38 and 42. I brought the fronts down to 28 and the rear down to 36. Should make her drive even better. I think the front being so overinflated was why it seemed to wander a little. I even remember MAX telling me what the tire pressure should be, and not to over inflate them, when he was delivering her.

Thump on the forehead, Jetfuel.

I'm a regular at Gerber's Tire...always a pound here, another couple of pounds there...kinda like my scale...

Seems that a good few have overinflated fronts when they picked up their smarts. Mine were 38 all around when I got it. Felt horrible, too...

Boy, I wonder what kind of dealers are out there. When I picked mine up at RR Smart, they made sure that the Gas guage is redone, so that way you don't have the 7 bar syndrome. The tires are all at correct pressures, and the gas tank is filled. Then they go and detail the car so you get in, it is not dirty from the transport guys dirty feet. That is how any dealer should be doing your car. If they are not, then they really don't care about you or your car. Just the bottom dollar.

Just got my orphan a couple of weeks ago from San Antonio, and I checked my tire pressure and it was perfect, 29 front, 36 back. Also checked oil and belts and they were also perfect. San Antonio seems like a great place to buy. I think they have several orphans ready to buy almost all the time. Had several on the lot when I picked up mine. Maybe no need to get in line.

We keep ours at 40 on all 4 and we also get an average of 45mpg. I do not feel enough of a difference in handling to justify the low tire pressure the factory calls for. That may be just me.
