Ya that was me. On my way to Butler. There is a little hole about the size of a water meter cover in the left lane southbound maybe 200 feet downhill from the Coldsprings stoplight that I try to miss with a small swerve. I have troubles with that hill - I tend to go too fast and I'll be doing 65 before I realize it. This is one of my major driving issues with the car - I go too fast because of the great pickup and feeling like I'm in a full-size car so I don't realize how fast I'm going. I get a lot of that sinking feeling of looking in the rearview and the traffic is waaay in back of me & I simultaneously looking at speedometer and hoping no cops spotted me.

Even in automatic it has great acceleration - unless you happen to catch it when its lagging in the gears at very low speed. For accelerating from a dead stop at a stoplight its pretty darn impressive. But one thing you don't want to do in automatic is roll up to a corner & do the quick look & turn in front of oncoming traffic - because the tranny is lagging and after you turn you'll be hunching over anticipating getting hit because its so slow. Manual shift - no problem. Automatic - come to a full stop first and then no problem.

well "Chief", looks like you lucked out. it was "PJ" and not 'the other guy'.

and thanks "PJ" for your take on the acceleration and stopping/starting in the smart. when you're on a test drive in one of THEIR cars, you (at least I do anyway) drive completely different than you would in your own smart. can't wait to 'experiment' with the shifting and watching my MPG's.

do ya think because of all those trips 'downhill' at 65+MPH on Michigan Rd that it might have led to you 'blowing your top'???

Hey PJ:
What was the "ultimate" outcome of your roof? Did it actually come off all the way while you were driving down the road? How did SCI handle it and how long? Waiting minds want to know

well, i spotted ANOTHER smart today. we went to Avon and happened to pass one that was on a used car lot. a white/black Passion at "Best West Auto". i looked it up online and i think they were asking something like $22K for it! good luck with THAT!

but since it's not really 'owned' at this time, i'm not counting it in my total, "Chief".....still 5-2 "Jeepster"

AGAIN.....today i saw the little Bumblebee at Wally World. i suspect its driven by a very small person, as the drivers seat was very close to the steering wheel.

i should have left a note on the windshield and invite them to join us here, if they aren't here already........

Jeepster 5 - Chief 3 !

I saw another one today! I was cruising I-70 with my CC set to 70 and saw this "thing" in my rear view. I thought, "It looks like a smart!" As it grew closer I saw that distinctive smile It blew past me like greased lightning! He must have been doing 85! Anyway, he was east bound just inside the Indiana border; silver on silver!

I'm catching up

Ok Boys! Since we're keeping score. I saw my 7th smartie in the wild today, a blue/black/black cabrio! It belongs to jd3850. I met her at the first 100 and saw her at Warsaw Wal-Mart today and had to stop to talk! My dad hadn't seen another smart yet, so he was quite excited!

You've both been beat by a girl!
