Indianapolis Motor Speedway Meet!!!!

Ok, I'm taking the bull by the horns here guys.....don't let me down.

On Wednesday May 20th, IMS has what they call "Community Day" at the track. Not only are there track tours, but the museum would be open as well.

BUT the greatest attraction, in MY feeble little mind, would be participating in a DRIVE AROUND THE TRACK! On this day only, the general public is allowed to make a lap of the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway in their personal vehicle. In our case, OUR SMARTS!

I can see it now, 100 smart cars IN A ROW lapping the Brickyard!!!!

Anyone think this is a great idea? If so, I'll contact Walter at SCI and maybe someone at IMS to see if we could have a "Hospitality Tent" for smart owners to meet and greet, as well as a parking area for our cars.

FEEDBACK PLEASE........

that sounds awesome! i think single file would be best. as awesome as 3 wide would be i can imagine there being issues with no lines, the turns, and the incline

...been there done that got the certificate you get at the end...the down side of it is the speed...10-15 mph that's all..police and IMS security all over the track enforcing the rules...you can thank the GTO club for that...many years ago they decided to go fast and do burnouts on the track...well...that put an end to the no escort lap around...but still..is Indianapolis Motor Speedway...and the view from the inside is just awesome...trust me on this one....
...if in town..I'm in...

I'll have to pass on that one, it would just kill me to drive at such a slow speed, even in the smart. Been to the museum several times and I highly recomend that for those who love racing history and exotica.
Now, if some one here is well connected and can arrange a visit to the basement that would be the cat's meawww!

Sounds like fun. Drove around the track in the 70's, would be interesting to see the changes

Yea, me too, but it was many years ago in my '71 Challenger R/T 340. BIG difference in that and my smart. And one year, there was a bicycle charity event, Cycle for Sight, that I rode a 10sp around. talk about SLOW! but it was a great way to look at each inch of the old concrete wall on the backstretch, the cables on the fence, thinking about those who gave their life to racing many, many years ago. Quite a sobering experience, but one that I would LOVE to experience again.
