I guess you can add the missing Red Cross person to the short coming list of the 100 gig. Not a big deal. But yeah, they sure might have pulled in some dollars had someone taken care of those donations. Maybe even should have "passed the hat" during the speeches. Oh well, did my part.
Yeah, I had fun going around the circle. Would have been cool if there were cops escorting the drive. Might have blocked it off, then we could have had ALL of the smarts going around at the same time! Maybe 3 or 4 abreast! Now THAT would have been something.
Next party I'll probably bother going to will be the 500 member party. On that one we'll hope they let us all do a lap around the speedway. In fact, they might as well have something THAT big AT the speedway, or across from the IMS, just like the Miracle Ride for Rileys.
ok, i 'think' i have what was left of my sanity back. ha ha
even though i didn't attend, i was just disappointed with SCI that they advertised the 'escorted drive' and then NO ESCORT and a 'BBQ' that turned out to be HOTDOGS.
that brings us to the issue of the Red Cross. aside from the smart owners getting to meet EACH OTHER, the offer from SCI to match all donations made to the Red Cross that eveningshould have been the focus of the evening. with no Red Cross representative on hand and only a 'box' near the receptionist desk in which to put donations and apparently no mention of the Red Cross during anyones speeches, what had appeared as a genuine offer of assistance from SCI and smart owners to Indiana Flood victims had become more or less forgotten. very sad.....
when it comes to SCI or any company for that matter, all i ask is that they be honest, attentive, prompt and accurate when dealing with me and when a company says they'll do something, that they do it. that's all.
am i setting my expectations too high?
it was nice to see all the pics taken (thanks to all that posted them) and great to see that everyone enjoyed meeting other smart owners. sometimes the little things can mean the most!
The Red Cross donation box was on the reception desk not near it.
According to Matt the red Cross Rep "failed" to show up no control over that.
The dog's were cooked on a BBQ grill so to me that's a BBQ but one can argue semantics if they want.
They are a small dealership with a small number of employees who tried to put on a show for a lot of people.. hindsight is 20/20 I'm sure their next effort will be even better. We drove a total of 4-hours (to and back) and were not disappointed.
I wonder if the customers at the Mercedes or Honda dealership next door have ever been thrown a party?

i'm sorry to have offended anyone. first, this get together was a great idea on the part of SCI and i applaud them for putting it together. it was just IMHO that it should have been 'advertised for what it was'......"a smart meet and greet with a drive to the downtown area and then on to Ricks Boatyard Cafe."
as for the 'donation box', "near the receptionist desk" and "on the receptionist desk".....yadda, yadda, yadda.....my point was how many people were TOLD where it was and ASKED while making speeches "Should you like to make a donation to the Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross for Indiana flood victims, you may do so at the box ON the receptionist desk". you are absolutely right in that they had no control over the rep 'not showing'. , but this would have been a perfect opportunity to do some good and help some very distraught Hoosiers and it just got lost in the 'moment'.
and as for Honda and Mercedes throwing parties like that? you're right.....they wouldn't. but i don't own a Honda or a Mercedes and don't have one 'reserved' as well. however, if they DID throw a party, i would expect them to advertise it for what it is just like i do anyone else, including SCI. stepping down now.......

THATS GREAT!! So glad they followed up with this email request!
As for other dealership's throwing parties.... You guys must not be on the right mailing lists! My husband goes to fancy shindigs at dealerships around Indy once or twice a year. The food is usually unbelieveable - filet, crab, martinis and other mixed drinks served by wait staff. Usually better than most weddings we've been to! Mostly, these are parties introducing a new car model or some other dealership celebration.
Having said that, the Smart dealership is certainly operating on a tighter budget selling $13-$18k cars, and I fully enjoyed the down home cookout!

Holly
this is great news. thanks SCI!!! you realized your error and made good. i applaud you!
as for these 'other' dealerships.....Holly, where are they because I want to attend THOSE functions!!!! MARTINIS? FILET? HOLY CRAB CAKES, BATMAN!!! where can I sign UP???
i'll be sending in my check today. so i guess the way it's worded is that they will match 'up to' $10? if i send 10 checks for $10, you think they might 'catch on' to what i'm doing????
and before anyone says anything, it's very generous of them and i think they're doing a great thing with the 'match'. Thanks, SCI!

Trying to remember which dealerships... The last one I think was when they introduced the Mini Clubman ... Or maybe it was something at Porche?? Dang can't remember. I didn't go with him (usually don't) so the only thing that stuck in my memory was the crazy good food and drinks!
My hubby is a bit of a car savant. He is frequently in dealerships window shopping. We own volvos and bought from that dealership. Maybe, you could test drive a few nice cars and see what happens!
