OK, it's been a while since the Indiana group has done anything, so here's an Idea:
What about a get together to support toys for tots? I have the contact info for the local representantive. Columbia City has a really neat Christmas lights display at the local park, admission could be a new, unwrapped toy. Maybe we could get together before hand for dinner? How about staging 2 or 3 in different parts of the state, that way Smarties of Indiana could donate in several different areas? I would be willing to set one up locally here. Anyone want to volunteer down near Indy or elsewhere? I'm thinking, Dec 12th for a date.
Give me some feeback, I'd like to see how many would be willing to help a great organization like this.
What if instead of toys for tots we go to the local Boys & Girls Club and adopt a family. We can then get a list of needs and then divide an conquer.
Each area that we meet in we can sponsor a different family, and when we do meet maybe we could arrange to have the family meet us somewhere and give them the gifts. This may allow so type of media coverage if we are looking for that.
I've gotten several positive responses so far, so I'm going to plan an event locally. I guess I forgot to mention, that the light show in CC is drive through, they set up the decorations along the main road going through the park. Nobody has to get out of their vehicles in the cold.
There is also a housing addition next to the park that seems to have a great lights competiton each year. We can drive through there as well. There are a lot of people that put in a lot of effort on their light shows.
Let' plan to meet at 5pm for dinner on the 12th, that way we have plenty of time to socialize before dark, then we'll head over to the park. There's a really nice restaurant right off US 30 called Sheri's Place. Only ate there a couple of times, but it's been very good. They have a pretty wide menu selection. Let me know if you plan on attending, and I'll make arrangements with the restaurant.
OK, who's going to volunteer to host one somewhere else in the state?
This morning I got an e-mail from the area representative, the Columbia City Chamber of Commerce actually wants to advertise our little get together! They want a good picture, and a press release from me. They would also like to know how many are attending. I think they are expecting a bigger event than I'm willing to put on, but I will discuss with her. So far I have 5 signed up, any more takers?
