Window Tinting

So who all has tinted windows? What percentage? where did you get it done and how much? Aren't there different types of tint? I got a quote of $145, they recommend 15%, and said there is only two types of tint, cheep or quality, and only has a 1 year warranty. I remember Ziebart advertising a lifetime warranty? Any recommendations in southern Indiana?

I don't know where 15% would be legal. 31% is as dark as we can do in WA state. Cost was a bit higher for the metal-film tint, but warranty was lifetime for film and labor.

VERY happy with the results after one summer without!

Don't forget, 15% film rejects 85% of all incoming light, not exactly optimal for night driving... If you are dealing with a shop willing to do illeagle tinting-RUN! Don't walk away. If they are breaking the law, how good will their warranty be?

Just checked IN law and tint must pass more than 30% of light.

Have a look:
Window film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is a table with legal maximum tinting in several States.

My Brabus came with tint that was installed by the dealer. My car was an orphan and had already been done. The dealer claimed that it was "required" for orphans. I think it was required for profit, but I would have had it done anyway. Let the fun begin

Mine was done in my garage for $100. Legal tint darkness, lifetime warranty on the film and installation. I had the same pricing from two companies. Shop around.

Thanks for all the info, I was thinking my last car I had 35%, that's why I questioned the girl when she said 15%. They do a lot of police and security sales, I guess that's why they use the dark tint. I just started looking, guess I better call Walter and see what he can do.

Had mine done by a guy that's been doing my cars for about 15 years. Lil Panda is 20% on the sides and back, nothing on the windshield. As for price? I'm not sure what he charges the general public, but he's always treated me right. All I'll say it was alot less than $145.

In Indiana, "legal" is 35% on the front doors and you can go much darker (20, 15 or 10%) on the rear doors, quarter glass and rear glass on 'normal' cars. On the smart, "legal" would be 35% on the doors and any of the others on the back glass. As long as I can remember, I've ALWAYS done 20%, even on the front door glass, and (knock on wood) never been stopped or questioned.

If you're up in Greenwood "wildman", I can steer you his way if you like. Just PM me.....

Not that it's any help, but did mine in my garage $40 in supplies and about 2 hours of my time.

And the other posters are correct, in Indiana, you need to stick with 35% to be legal. The rule is 30% TOTAL transmission, so you have to count the tint already in the glass. That's why legal shops won't install anything darker than 35%. I wouldn't go any darker than 20% on the back either. I stuck with 35% all the way around on mine. The smart gets enough attention as it is, don't need any more with illegal tint.
